Duties: The Wharton Fund is seeking an Associate Director, Wharton Fund Marketing and Operations. The ideal candidate will be creative, entrepreneurial, and well versed in marketing and segmentation trends for higher education, with a particular focus on direct mail and student calling/phonathon strategies and execution.
The Associate Director, Wharton Fund Marketing and Operations reports to the Director of the Wharton Fund and plays an integral team role in planning, coordinating, and producing annual giving solicitations to generate financial support for the School from alumni, students, parents, friends, faculty, and staff. Solicitation and stewardship strategies will include direct mail, student calling (in collaboration with Penn's School and Center Development Program), broadcast email/eNewsletters, The Wharton Fund website, online giving forms, and donor recognition programs.
As part of the team delivering a comprehensive annual giving program in order to increase support and participation for Wharton, the Associate Director, Wharton Fund Marketing and Operations will focus on:
1 - implementing a sophisticated data and segmentation strategy under the direction of Director of The Wharton Fund to acquire, renew, and upgrade donors
2 - execute the direct mail and phonathon calendar in coordination with the overall Wharton Fund calendar and project timelines
3 - manage the direct mail/email project timelines and solicitation process with internal partners (Communications, Reports, Operations, Alumni Relations, etc.) to meet required deadlines
4 - monitor the quality of data (quality control) to ensure accuracy with bio and financial information (gift arrays and last gift information) and defined segments with all direct mail/email solicitations
5 - work closely with the School and Center Program to provide overall direction for the student calling program to ensure that scripts are coordinated with current fundraising messages as well as manage the data and reports provided from the calling program and all daily interaction
6 - track and report on direct mail/email response rates to support segmentation strategies
7 - implement strategies to maximize data capture and accuracy
8 - manage acknowledgement strategies in partnership with stewardship team in support of donor retention
9 - represent The Wharton Fund at various alumni/student events on and off campus
10 - assume additional responsibilities as required.
The Associate Director must be able to represent Wharton and the Wharton Fund team in a professional, enthusiastic manner with a customer service and team focus. Evening and weekend work required as needs dictate. A flexible schedule is required. Other duties as assigned, including assisting at several events throughout the year.
Qualifications: A bachelor's degree and 3-5 years of experience, preferably in higher education development, is required or equivalent combination of education and experience. Excellent management, organizational, communications (written and oral), interpersonal, public speaking, and computer skills (specifically with Microsoft Excel, crystal reports and fundraising software like PeopleSoft or BlackBaud's Raisers Edge); Detail oriented; High level of self-confidence and enthusiasm; Must be self-motivated and strategic, able to analyze data and offer recommendations as to best course of action; Strong customer service orientation; Ability to interact professionally and diplomatically with alumni, volunteers, students, friends, staff, faculty, vendors and external constituents; Ability to work independently and in a team environment on several projects at a time.
