Position Summary: The University Housing & Dining Services invites applications for a full-time (1.0 FTE), 12-month, Resident Director position. Reappointment is at the discretion of the Director.

UHDS houses 4,600 students and offers a variety of living and dining options in 15 residence halls, three dining centers, four coffee shops, a market, and a limited number of family apartments. UHDS is an auxiliary enterprise which is funded solely by customers who use our services -- we receive no State or General fund allocation. The Resident Director (RD) is a 52-week live-in, professional responsible for the overall administration of one or more residence halls housing 200-500 students. The Resident Director plays an integral role in implementing Oregon State University's First Year Experience Program, helping students thrive academically, personally, and socially, and to find a connection to the institution. The Resident Director supervises primarily undergraduate students in creating safe, educational, caring, and inclusive communities. This position reports to an Assistant Director of Residential Education.

Finally, we provide opportunities for students to develop leadership skills, and we encourage students to demonstrate responsible and ethical behavior in their communities.

This position will adhere to all OSU and UHDS policies and procedures, and applicable laws both on and off campus.

Position Duties: 20% Supervision
5-16 student direct reports (Resident Assistants and Senior Resident Assistants). Participate in the recruitment, selection, training, planning, assigning, and review of work and evaluation of staff. Act on disciplinary issues, up to and including dismissal, and address grievances. Design and implement training sessions for staff and student leaders. Implement on-going training and development for staff and student leaders. May include supervision of a graduate assistant.

15% Relationship and Community Development
Direct staff in creating inclusive communities that are socially just, safe and welcoming in a residence hall setting of 200-500 students. Develop and implement a relationship and community development plan and activity model for the hall/area. Serve as a resource and referral agent for
students' social, academic, and identity development needs. Support and meet the needs of all traditionally underrepresented student(s) (e.g., international, Muslim, LGBT students) and assist student staff to do the same. Assist staff and student leaders in creating inclusive and diverse programs. Utilize campus resources in meeting the needs of traditionally underrepresented students. Maintain knowledge and educates self in areas of diversity/social justice.

10% Academic Initiatives and Engagement
Collaborate with University, departmental, and community partners to promote Academic Success in the residential community. Utilize benchmarking data, departmental, divisional, and institutional strategic plans and missions, and frequent collaboration with university partners and colleagues to create a living environment that infuses learning into the student's every day activities.

10% Student Rights and Responsibilities/Judicious Leadership
Work collaboratively with appropriate campus partners to uphold the Code of Student Conduct and implement the conduct process in an educational and proactive manner. Responsible for interpreting and upholding the University's rules and regulations pertaining to student conduct occurring within the residence halls. Serve as a judicial/conduct hearing officer. Manages incident reporting and case management database.

Position Duties (continued): 10% Crisis Management/Conflict Resolution
Provide coverage for 4,500 bed residence hall system and 100 unit family housing complex during large-scale campus programs and situations. Provide night and weekend on-call rotating coverage for all University Housing and Dining Services operations. Completes crisis and on-call reporting paperwork.

10% Administration
Work collaboratively with Operations and Facilities unit staff to complete all occupancy and maintenance processes. Responsible for opening and closing processes for the hall. Manage hall community and staff development budgets and follows department and University purchasing
guidelines. Follow all protocols related to inventory, damage, billing, keys, fire safety and building security. Assist/direct cleanup of extra messes. Utilize computer skills and technology to accomplish job responsibilities.

10% Unit/Dept Responsibilities
Participate in unit/dept. and area decision making and planning meetings. Participate in Univ. and dept. committees and work groups, including the opportunity to chair dept. committees. Represent Residential Education and UHDS at Univ. programs and events. Assist in the recruitment of new students and the retention of current students. Assist in the administration of assessment surveys and other assessment strategies. Assist in the recruitment, selection, and training of professional and paraprofessional staff.

10% Professional Development
Participate in Performance Management Process by creating an annual professional development plan with assistance of supervisor. Participate in regional, state, and national professional organizations and associations. Participate in staff training and development opportunities provided by Residential Education.

5% Other duties as assigned

Working Conditions/Work Schedule: This position performs "essential functions" and is required to report to work during emergencies and university closures. Resident Directors assigned to "Continuous Operation" halls have primary responsibility for campus coverage during OSU Breaks and Holidays, and as such may not be allowed to take vacation leave during these times (Thanksgiving, Winter Break, Spring Break).

This position requires significant weekend, evening, and early morning time commitments, on-call responsibilities, as well as supervisory work and advising with residential students, residential student staff and residential professional staff during meal times and in dining center operations. Live-on and Live-in Residential Education staffs receive a full dining plan as part of their conditions of employment. Live-on and Live-in staff have dining and housing provided at the convenience of the employer. These staff members participate in an "on-call" rotation for our 24 hour per day, 365 day per year operation. Staff members holding Residential Education positions are expected to spend significant time with students, student staff and professional staff in the residence halls and dining centers in order to maintain approachability, foster relationships, be available for developmental conversations and interventions, provide one-on-one and small group training sessions, and to ensure customer service needs are being met with regard to housing and dining operations.

Minimum/Required Qualifications: Requires Master's Degree in College Student Services Administration, Education Administration, or a closely related field OR Bachelor's Degree and 3 years full-time Student Housing or Residential Life experience

Demonstrated staff supervision skills.

Ability to create and maintain successful academic environments.

Ability to demonstrate personal support of a diverse living, learning and work environment.

Demonstrated knowledge required to manage crisis response.

Demonstrated understanding of facility management including custodial and maintenance.

Basic competence with technology (e-mail, word processing, web development, spreadsheets and databases).

Pursuant to Oregon Law and UHDS Policy, this position is required to maintain current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation and Automated External Defibrillator (CPR/AED) certification (if cognitively and physically able to do so). Annual training is provided at department expense. Duty to act ends at summoning professional emergency assistance.

Demonstrated knowledge required to investigate and adjudicate student conduct.

Experience (either professional or paraprofessional) in a 3,000 bed or larger residence hall system.

Second language skill: Prefer Asian language, Spanish, or Arabic or experience working with or as an international student.
