Position Summary: The Welding Instructor is a full-time faculty member responsible for conducting assigned classes of instruction. A full time faculty member is expected to maintain high standards of professionalism and high academic standards. At least 40 hours per week are to be spent in the following: direct instruction; preparation and evaluation of instruction; accessibility to students; committee assignments; advising and service to the college and community. Faculty may be assigned a teaching schedule that includes any college location, and at times that meet student, program and college needs. Duties and Responsibilities: Teach welding classes, perform welding demonstrations, trouble shoot equipment problems, responsible for safety in the welding and associated areas. Required Education/Experience Skills: A.A.S. degree in Welding; 5 years’ work experience as a Welding Instructor or a combination as a Welder, Welding Instructor, and Inspector that totals 5 years with at least 3 as a Welder. - Willing to become an AWS Certified Welding Inspector; former qualified Welder in FCAW or GMAW, GTAW, and SMAW pipe. - Able to use welding codes for inspection and welding certification; capable of performing welder qualification (certification); theory of welding processes; knowledge of welding safety as required by AWS Z49.1 safety manual. - Knowledge of metallurgy; basic electrical knowledge; fabrication experience, and setup and operation of UT testing equipment, able to teach the programming of robotic welding and CNC plasma cutting. - Must demonstrate the ability to pass a welder qualification test on pipe with SMAW, GTAW, and GMAW in house. - Demonstrate cutting skills; some heavy lifting is required. - As part of the job, you will be required to perform welder qualification for students that complete a semester without charge. Must be able to use a lathy and milling machine in preparation of materials to be tested. - Demonstrate the use of D1.1 code book. Preferred Education/Experience/Skills: - Proficient with computers, Word, Excel, PowerPoint. - Proficient in keeping records on students. - Use of Blackboard for web assisting of classes. - Fork lift experience or training.
