Education Technology Services is seeking an Instructional Designer to work in teams with faculty at Commonwealth Campus locations to design and develop hybrid and online courses. This position works with multiple campuses, technology units and teaching centers in order to support strategic program development within the Commonwealth Campuses. Activities may include collaboration on the development of course design standards, process documentation or training materials that support the growth of online and blended learning.
The candidate should be knowledgeable about ways that online tools can be used to enrich teaching and learning and should have experience with tools such as course management systems, blogs, social networks, wikis, and Google Apps. The candidate must have a willingness to work in a team-based environment as well as possess excellent verbal and written communication skills. An ideal candidate would feel passionate about education, be curious about new technologies, have an eye for the art and science of instructional design, and be willing to share what they do in an open manner.
This job will be filled as a level 2, or level 3, depending upon the successful candidate's competencies, education, and experience.
Typically requires a Master's degree plus two years of work related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience for a level 2. Additional experience and/or education and competencies are required for higher level jobs. A Master’s degree or higher in instructional design, educational technology, or a related field, plus related experience in instructional design is preferred. Since travel to Penn State campuses is a part of this position, a valid driver’s license is required.
This is a fixed-term appointment funded for one year from date of hire with excellent possibility of re-funding.
