Morrisville State College seeks candidates for a full time, tenure track faculty position in its new Culinary Arts Management program. The successful chef candidate will provide dynamic learning activities that stimulate student involvement and encourage critical thinking to a diverse enrollment in a manner that integrates life, interpersonal, and workforce development skills with academics. Expectations include supervising student interns at external placements, weekend and night assignments and activities, involvement in campus and community activities, as well as departmental and campus service, assessment, scholarship and professional development. The qualified candidate will also be able to comfortably demonstrate their ability to teach a broad range of culinary and hospitality classes in both lecture and laboratory settings including culinary skills development, advanced culinary arts, restaurant ala carte and banquet service, baking and pastry and garde manger using current technologies that foster student success in the classroom. The individual will provide excellent practical and theoretical instruction in an environment that is professional and builds teamwork. It is expected that our new chef will be willing to take part in interdisciplinary and collaborative teaching efforts as we prepare our students for the ever changing world of culinary arts and restaurant management, and to work to achieve American Culinary Federation accreditation including required annual professional development activities. Qualifications: An earned master’s degree in culinary arts, hospitality or closely related area and three years of production experience at sous chef level or higher are required. Certification, as defined by The American Culinary Federation, at the chef level or higher (or equivalent education and experience) is also required. We also desire one year of successful documented teaching experience, as well as industry certifications and memberships. Candidates will be expected to demonstrate their teaching techniques at the time of on-site interviews. Salary commensurate with education and experience. Morrisville State College is ideally located in the geographic center of New York State and offers over 75 different majors. Morrisville State College is well known for programs in the areas of business and entrepreneurship, agriculture, natural resource conservation and sustainability, hospitality and restaurant management, criminal justice, applied psychology, video-journalism, equine science and rehabilitation, nursing, massage therapy, wood technology, residential construction, science and technology, and automotive. The School of Agriculture, Sustainability, Business & Entrepreneurship enrolls approximately 900 students. The Hospitality Technology Department enrolls approximately 125 students. The department has offered AAS degrees in Restaurant Management/Food Service, Travel and Tourism Management, Gaming and Casino Management and a BBA degree in Resort and Recreation Service Management. The Culinary Arts Management, AAS program was approved for enrollment in June of 2013 with recruitment for fall 2014 enrollment beginning immediately. Initial indications and expectations are for a fall 2014 freshman incoming class of approximately 30 students with future freshman enrollments reaching up to 50 students. The Copper Turret Restaurant in Morrisville serves as the live learning laboratory and home base for the Culinary Arts program.
