Position Summary: Oversees the security and safety functions at the College of Human Medicine Flint Campus; responsible for assessing the risks to which CHM Flint campus is exposed and developing and executing programs to protect and safeguard personnel, students, visitors, and assets; responsible for initial actions to enforce law and protect occupants in the event of a criminal incident; develops and implements policies, procedures, and training programs to prevent and/or mitigate threats from fire, theft, natural hazards, sabotage, vandalism, illegal entry, or other situations that endanger the property or well being of the organization or its employees; serves as back-up on critical facility systems when the facility manager is unavailable and oversees custodial staff (i.e., contracted employees); serves as the key contact and point person for emergency management and law enforcement; aligns with applicable MSU safety, security, and risk management policies; responsible for assisting in Clery Act compliance, notifications, and reporting. This position reports jointly to the College of Human Medicine and the MSU Police Department and is located in Flint, Michigan.

Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree program in security administration, criminal justice, or law enforcement; five years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in a management/leadership role in health care or academic security; a working knowledge and competence of complex security and building control systems, card access and video surveillance systems, safety management and emergency planning; computer and software aptitude required with an emphasis on word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation software; or an equivalent combination of education and experience; M-COLES certification.

Typing Requirements (wpm):

Desired Qualifications: Three to five years of experience as a security officer or police officer in an academic or university setting; Michigan State Police designation of Professional Emergency Manager (PEM); knowledge of MSU policies and procedures, criminal statutes, and conducting investigations; excellent management and employee relations skills; proven team builder; detail and results-oriented with a proficient application of performance metrics and applications; demonstrated commitment to continual learning; ability to communicate both orally and in writing, to manage multiple projects/requests, and to demonstrate poise, tact, and judgment at all times; a highly professional demeanor as well as sensitivity to confidential matters; demonstrates the ability to handle complex assignments under minimal supervision; familiarity with Microsoft PowerPoint software.
