Position Summary: The Center for Global Connections in Food, Agriculture, and Natural Resources (CGC) Communications Manager will oversee all aspects of the Center''s strategic planning and marketing programs including publications, Web site, social media and media relations, work with the director, faculty, and staff in developing marketing strategies for the Center and will coordinate the implementation of this plan; successful candidate will be responsible for communicating the services and mission of the Center to internal and external stakeholders.

Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree program in journalism, telecommunications, marketing, advertising, public relations, or related field; three to five years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in a public relations office or marketing environment, including writing and editing a variety of formats such as news releases, articles, Web pages; experience with word processing and Web content management, maintenance, and communication; experience with design programs (InDesign, Photoshop, etc.); knowledge of Associated Press style; an understanding of academic organizations and procedures, experience creating internal staff communications; experience with application and demonstration of strong news judgment, research, and interviewing skills; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Desired Qualifications: Willingness to invest the time and effort to try to understand program delivery and evaluation and how communication activities support and advance the programs of CGC; working knowledge of MSU''s branding guidelines; experience promoting and communicating information related to international development work; demonstration of sensitivity to and an understanding of various cultures; ability to work across disciplines and with students; background in agriculture and natural resources; experience in taking complex scientific research information and composing/editing stories, news releases, etc. in a way that makes them accessible to the various audiences of international development.
