Posting Description: The Special Diabetes Program for Indians Initiatives are located at 68 sites nationally. The Diabetes Prevention Initiative targets individuals at high risk for developing type 2 diabetes and focuses on lifestyle changes through education and community activities. The Healthy Heart Initiative targets individuals diagnosed with type 2 diabetes and utilizes a case management approach to reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease. The overall mission of CAIANH is to advance the health of American Indian and Alaska Native communities by means of research, training, technical assistance, and information dissemination. Assists with the design and implementation of quality assurance procedures related to data collection. 2. Corresponds with data coordinators from 68 project sites with respect to the collection of data, including describing data quality issues clearly and concisely to ensure data are collected correctly according to the respective project protocol. 3. Reviews and edits the incoming data collection forms and quality assurance responses to ensure that the data are collected in a scientifically valid manner according to the rules of the protocol. Ensures data are complete, consistent, and within established ranges. 4. Ensures that all data collection and management activities are performed with the utmost attention to participant confidentiality and HIPAA and IRB requirements. 5. Communicates problems with data to the supervising biostatistician. 6. Establishes coding systems and ensures that the data received in response to open-ended questions are properly coded. 7. Assists in preparation of statistical information/materials for national program meetings. 8. Other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree, or equivalent work experience. Intermediate or better experience with word processing, email, and internet required.

Required Competencies/Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: 1. Knowledge and understanding of fundamental logical concepts of collecting and processing research data and of statistical concepts such as reliability and validity. 2. Ability to develop coding systems for open-ended questions. 3. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, verbally and in writing. 4. Knowledge and understanding of HIPAA and IRB requirements for health care research. 5. Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail; ability to manage multiple tasks and competing priorities; willingness and ability to work flexible hours. 6. Ability to appreciate the social and cultural context of American Indian/Alaska Native communities. 7. Ability to work on a team as well as independently and to establish and maintain cooperative and supportive relationships with project staff and other stakeholders.

Desired Qualifications: 1. Experience with spreadsheet and database applications (e.g., Microsoft Excel and Access) strongly preferred.
