Job Description: This is a 12-month tenure-accruing position in the Department of Family, Youth and Community Sciences, Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences, University of Florida, assigned 65% extension (Florida Cooperative Extension Service) and 35% research (Florida Agricultural Experiment Station). This assignment may change in accordance with the needs of the unit. Duties will include (1) developing and implementing formal and non-formal Extension programs to educate community and industry leaders about public issues involving community development, planning, resilience, and sustainability; (2) planning and conducting a high-quality, productive research program with an emphasis on examining emerging trends in community development and the role of community leaders in addressing and managing issues (3) working with internal and external stakeholders to develop strategic plans to educate community and industry leaders about public issues relevant to rural and urban communities; (4) seeking grant funding to support the aforementioned research and the alternative delivery of community issues educational programs; (5) advising graduate students; and (6) contributing to the Department's overall goals in scholarship and research. Tenure will be in the Department of Family, Youth and Community Sciences with an appointment in the UF/IFAS Center for Public Issues Education. The faculty member will actively participate in graduate education by chairing and serving on graduate committees, supervising thesis research, and publishing the results with his/her graduate students. The faculty member will actively seek contract and grant funding to support his/her program and engage in Extension activities in his or her program area. The successful candidate will engage in scholarly activities related to community development and public issues education, including seeking funding for the Center for Public Issues Education, supervising undergraduate and graduate research and creative work, publishing relevant scholarship, participating in curriculum revision and enhancement, producing learning tools, and engaging in professional development activities related to teaching and advising. Faculty members are encouraged to support and participate in the CALS Honors Program, distance education, and international education. Because of the IFAS land-grant mission, all faculty members are expected to be supportive of and engaged in all three mission areas - teaching, research, and extension - regardless of the assignment split specified in the position description.

Minimum Requirements: A doctorate (foreign equivalent acceptable) in community development, urban and regional planning, rural sociology, communications, geography, organizational leadership or closely related field with an emphasis in community issues education, issues management, extension education, and/or research methodology is required. Successful candidates will have demonstrated effectiveness or clear promise in extension programming, research, teaching, verbal and written communication, collaboration/teamwork, interpersonal communication, and procurement of extramural funding. Candidates must be supportive of the land-grant system and IFAS's core values of excellence, diversity, global involvement, and accountability. The successful applicant must have a strong commitment to research and extension and a proven ability to work effectively with professional colleagues, students, and stakeholders. Preferred Qualifications: Previous industry or agency professional experience working in the community development and public issues arena is strongly preferred.
