Assistant Vice President for Sponsored Funds Administration

Job Description:
Reporting to the Vice President for Research, the Assistant Vice President for Sponsored Funds Administration is responsible for overseeing the delivery of pre- and post-award research support at the University at Albany.  Specific operational units falling within the incumbent’s area of responsibility include the offices of:  Sponsored Programs, Sponsored Funds Financial Management, Sponsored Funds Personnel, and Sponsored Funds Purchasing.  The position will also be responsible for development of the campus Facilities and Administrative cost recovery proposal and oversight of other campus-wide research administration initiatives and projects.  The incumbent will be a key participant in the interpretation, dissemination and enforcement of federal, state, and funding sponsor regulations and policies The AVP/SFA will create an environment of support and collaboration by working closely with the Vice President, principal investigators, research administrators and staff, directors, deans and all levels of the University with a goal to support and expand the University’s externally sponsored research program.  He/she will demonstrate a high level of commitment to customer service, providing guidance and assistance to principal investigators while ensuring compliance with federal, state and university requirements governing funded research.

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree from a college or university accredited by a U.S. Department of Education or internationally recognized accrediting organization and ten years progressively responsible experience in sponsored funds administration
  • In depth understanding of laws, rules and regulations pertaining to research administration including OMB circular A-21 and A-133
  • Demonstrated accomplishments in staff leadership, project completion and change management
  • Supervisory experience including preparation of performance programs and evaluations
  • Demonstrated commitment to exceptional customer service
  • Strong written and oral communication and analytic skills and experience
  • Ability to work with a diverse population

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master’s degree
  • Higher Education experience
  • Certificate of Research Administration
