The Director, AP Higher Education Academic Engagement leads efforts to consult with colleges to maintain and establish evidence-based use of AP within credit-granting, placement, and articulation policies. Engage in direct outreach to academic leadership and faculty at institutions of higher education, placing particular emphasis on AP curriculum redesigns and the AP Capstone program. Develop and implement outreach strategies to key institutions in order to build endorsement of the new AP program and to help institutions establish and/or enhance AP credit and placement policies.   


  • Collaborate in the development of strategic outreach plan and effectiveness evaluation with the AP College and University Services unit.
  • Lead efforts to engage in direct outreach to academic provosts, deans of undergraduate studies and appropriate faculty identified in the strategic plan. Outreach will involve a review AP curriculum, assessments and research, with the goal of facilitating an informed and evidence-based AP college credit/placement policy based on a clear understanding of significant changes represented by the course and examination redesigns.  Develop awareness of and endorsement for the AP Capstone program currently in pilot. Inform College Board higher education regional staff of outreach targets so they may facilitate any required communication/outcomes to enrollment management staff on the targeted campuses.
  • Illustrate program relevance and value to academic leaders/faculty at targeted colleges and universities; convey alignment of AP courses and examination to General Education programs and alignment of AP assessments and scores to comparable college-level learning outcomes. 
  • Lead presentations to faculty serving on the targeted institutions’ academic policy review panels. Coordinate with the AP Program’s curriculum and content development leads to address course and examination questions; coordinate with faculty serving on AP development committees and/or other subject-matter experts who may serve as co-presenters or resources to engage faculty in a review of relevant courses.
  • In coordination with the AP Program’s curriculum and content development leads, identify and develop opportunities for faculty involved in AP to engage in panel presentations at academic conferences.  
  • Cultivate a set of best-practices for credit-granting and placement and promote research methodologies that support the implementation of evidence-centered policies. Generally serve as a knowledgeable service-oriented resource for AP course credit and placement policy review and revision. 
  • Evaluate and refine the academic policy outreach processes in collaboration with the AP CUS unit; communicate academic policy outreach strategy and the outcomes of the outreach internally to AP Program leadership and other internal College Board stakeholders.
  • Ensure targeted institutions’ policies are accurately reflected in the AP Policy search database.
  • Prepare and maintain a variety of outreach tools to include presentations, webinars, written communication and correspondence, and related reports. Develop presentations tailored to the specific needs and priorities of targeted colleges and universities.
  • Support the development of content for higher education-facing communications developed by the AP CUS unit, ensuring that feedback from outreach is incorporated in the AP Higher Education website, presentations, and print publications in coordination with AP CUS staff.


  • BA/BS and Master’s degree required, Doctorate preferred.  Seven to ten years of progressively responsible work experience in a professional position in higher education or a related field.  Work experience relevant to higher education services is essential.
  • Experience teaching at the college level highly desirable.
  • Knowledge of current Higher Education policy relative to articulation, academic course equivalence, and persistence and degree completion.
  • Understanding of current higher education trends and an ability to connect AP’s relevance to those trends.
  • Deep knowledge/familiarity with AP.

  • Computer literacy, including Microsoft Office applications. Willingness and ability to learn how to use internal data resources on the IBM Cognos platform and to document outreach activities via program and other databases.
  • Ability to effectively coordinate multiple responsibilities simultaneously
  • Ability to initiate and manage complex projects to successful completion
  • Proven collaboration skills—a genuine interest and ability to work as a part of a team
  • Willingness and ability to travel 50-70% of the time
