Extension Agent - Assistant (Greenwood,SC)
Full/Part Time: Full-Time
1. JOB PURPOSE
Area Agent will provide overall leadership for planning, executing, and evaluating educational programs in the area of livestock and forage production. Agent will seek the advice of local advisory committee for the development of Extension programs and will work as an integral team member of the livestock program team. The performance of the assigned responsibilities is governed by the philosophy, policies, and procedures of the Clemson University Cooperative Extension Service.
2. JOB FUNCTIONS
Plan, execute and evaluate educational programs in the area of livestock and forage production. Areas of emphasis may include reproductive physiology, ruminant nutrition, forage management, and livestock breeding/genetics, as well as an emphasis on beef cattle management and marketing. Work with agents in area of responsibility and on the Livestock Program Team to build a successful livestock program. It will be necessary to cover livestock programs in other counties in the region as called upon. E/60%
Work closely with all organized livestock associations in the counties of Abbeville, Greenwood, Edgefield, McCormick, Aiken, and others as needed. Work as an integral member of the S.C. Cattlemen's Association. E/20%
Keep current of the latest research findings in livestock and forage production systems - Maintain professional memberships in related professional improvement groups E/10%
Work as an integral member of livestock program team and be responsible for livestock educational support of 4-H agents both regionally and in the state of SC. E/5%
Responsible for Civil Rights, Affirmative Action, EEO and other reporting procedures in designated area of responsibility. Work with staff and University personnel to meet the Mission of the Clemson University Extension Service. E/5%
A Bachelors Degree in an agriculture-related field is required. A valid drivers license with acceptable driving record
Preferred in addition to the minimum requirements:
Master's degree in a relevant area preferred.
Knowledge skills & abilities:
Person must possess the skills and ability to work with adults and youth audiences. Ability to lead educational programs in the area of livestock and forage production; work cooperatively with staff and University personnel to meet the Mission of the CU Extension Service. Ability to work as a team member.
Guidelines and Supervision:
Must work well independently with ability to make sound decisions
PAY & WORK SCHEDULE:
Standard Hrs: 37.5; Salary commensurate with education and experience
Position will be located in Greenwood, SC.
