Title: Data Scientist/Computational Social Scientist

Position: Full Time

Level: Research Engineer/Scientist I/II, Sr/Pr

Primary Location: Atlanta, GA

Travel Required: Minimal

Lab: Aerospace, Transportation, and Advanced Systems Laboratory (ATAS)

Reporting To: Robotics and Autonomous Systems Division

Job Description: This position is for an experienced person (4+ years) who will be responsible for conceiving, contributing to, and implementing research in multiple areas, including (but not limited to) applied behavioral analysis, social media analysis, and predictive data analytics across multiple domains. Employee will be responsible for the design of experiments, data analysis, and subsequent reporting.

 

 

Requirements

Education: MS (PhD preferred) in Computer Science, Statistics, Quantitative Psychology

Experience:

  • Ability to use complex computational and statistical techniques to develop novel approaches for data analyses in an applied research environment
  • Expert with statistical analysis tools
  • Design machine learning models for data discovery and predictive insights
  • Programming and development experience preferred (Python & Java)
  • Familiarity with Natural Language Processing (NLP) methods
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to distill complex issues into structured frameworks and actionable insights
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience with large data sets and high volume data
  • Concrete experience with at least some of the following methods:

Classification - Decision Trees, KNN, Logistic Regression, Neural Net, SVM, Random Forest, HMMs

Regression -Linear, Nonlinear, Boosted Regression Trees

Clustering - K-means, Fuzzy C-means, Hierarchical Clustering, Mixture Modeling

Skills: This position requires (1) Statistical Analysis of large, complex data sets, (2) Proficiency with statistical programming packages (R, Matlab, Scikit, SPSS)  (3) Data manipulation  (SQL, Pandas, Mongo)  (4) Design of Experiments (5) Machine Learning Methods, (7) Broad programming skills to support analysis efforts in multiple programming environments, especially Python & Java (8) Familiarity with cognitive science/psychology/neuroscience research methods.

Other: Candidate must be a US citizen capable of holding a Secret DoD Security clearance, active clearance a major plus.
