Date of Appointment: approx. August 18, 2014 Position Description: Full-time visiting professor on annual international assignment for Fort Hays State University (FHSU) (http://www.fhsu.edu/), stationed at Sias International University (http://en.sias.edu.cn/) in Henan Province, China, with opportunity for annual renewal. Full Time Visiting Professor of Management and Marketing Overview: In 2000, FHSU and Sias became the first set of universities approved by the Chinese Ministry of Education to offer a dual Western/Chinese degree in China. Currently, the institutions offer three joint bachelor degree options that now enroll more than 2,000 students. The faculty member in this position will teach in the FHSU BBA degree program at Sias. All instruction, course deliverables, and other work is conducted in English, so familiarity with the Chinese language is not required. FHSU seeks an academically qualified (AQ) business faculty member to teach in our Bachelor of Business Administration in Management program at Sias International University in China. We seek faculty members who can teach combinations of the following courses: • MGT 101: Introduction to Business • MGT 301: Principles of Management • MGT 410: Organizational Behavior • MGT 411: Applied Management Skills • GBUS 204: Business Law • MGT 611: H.R. Management • MGT 403: Business, Society & Ethics • MGT 499: Business Policy & Strategy Although some flexibility exists with the assignment of faculty members to teaching responsibilities, the ideal mix of faculty members would be as follows: • One Management faculty member having primary responsibilities for MGT 101: Introduction to Business, MGT 403: Business, Society and Ethics, and GBUS 204: Business Law. • One Management faculty member having primary responsibilities for MGT 410: Organizational Behavior and MGT 411: Applied Management Skills. • One Management faculty member having primary responsibilities for MGT 499: Business Policy and Strategy, MGT 301: Management Principles, and MGT 611: H.R. Management. Successful applicants must travel to the FHSU campus in Hays, Kansas for a week of training in August 2014 before departing for China, and must be eligible to obtain a work permit in Henan Province, China. FHSU provides round-trip transportation (and additional reasonable expenses) for travel to and from China, as well as to FHSU for training. All instruction is supported with the Blackboard learning management system. Instructional workloads average 4 large-class sections each semester. Additional instructional responsibilities may be added to ensure workloads of four courses per semester for all faculty members. Applicants must demonstrate an ability to communicate and interact well with students from other cultures, FHSU faculty members, FHSU administrators, and the administrators at Sias International University. Each faculty member will be supported by two assistants. One assistant will be an American graduate teaching assistant (GTA) provided by Fort Hays State University. The other will be a Cooperating Teacher (CT) provided by Sias. These auxiliary instructors will lead recitation sessions and discussions, assist with grading, supervise examinations, assist with academic research, and perform other work as directed by the faculty member. Acceptance of applications begins immediately. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis, beginning immediately. Priority will be given to applications received by Thursday, April 17, 2014. Requirements: The successful candidate must be a U.S. citizen or be eligible for U.S. employment. Additionally, the successful candidate must be able to work legally in China by obtaining a work permit in the Henan Province of China. Each FHSU BBA faculty position at Sias is an annual assignment as a visiting professor, subject to annual review with possibility of continuation. Salaries and benefits are competitive for qualified applicants. Sias-based FHSU BBA faculty members report to the FHSU College of Business and Entrepreneurship’s International Coordinator. A terminal degree in an appropriate academic area is required, and each successful candidate should be either Academically Qualified (AQ) or Professionally Qualified (PQ) as defined by AACSB (http://www.aacsb.edu/). AQ applicants are preferred. AQ faculty members should have earned terminal degrees in their field of teaching (typically a Ph.D., or ABD for fewer than three years) and should be publishing scholarly work accordingly. Priority will be given to candidates with strong teaching, communication, and cross-cultural skills. Experience with online instructional delivery and course design (Blackboard) is also preferred. Prior experience working abroad will be favorably weighed. Sias International University Community: Sias is located in Xinzheng, in the Henan Province of China. Sias is approximately 45 minutes by car from Zhengzhou, the capital of Henan Province. Sias is a private university and was founded in 1998 by Dr. Shawn Chen, a dual citizen of the United States and the People’s Republic of China. Sias supports the greatest number of foreign faculty of any university in China: more than 180 English-speaking, foreign faculty members teach at Sias.
