Location: UCI Campus - Irvine
Under the direction and supervision of the Custodial Services Manager incumbent performs various skilled and semi-skilled custodial duties at the UCI Student Center and its satellite facilities. Operates cleaning equipment and ensures area is clean. Assist with setting up and dismantling of furniture and special equipment. Responsible for the security of area and possession of master keys. May serve as work leader for a small group of custodians.
Salary: Hourly $14.71 - $16.57
Work Schedule: Variable S,M,T,F,S 11pm-7:30am
Must accept a 5 day work week that may include weekends, and include occasional overtime assignments. Schedule and shift assignment to be determined by management. Workweek and times are subject to change.

Job Essential Function 1
Percent of Time: 85%
Perform daily skilled, semi-skilled, and unskilled cleaning of the UCI Student Center, Cross Cultural Center, Newkirk Alumni Center, and other areas.
Clean various types of flooring and building surfaces using vacuum cleaners, buffers, extractors, shampoo machines, wet/dry vacuums, steam machines, scrubbing and polishing machines.
Strip, scrub, reseal, wax/finish, spray buff, and polish hard floors.
Vacuum, spot, bonnet, shampoo, extract, and dry chemical clean carpets. Clean upholstery.
Perform all semi-skilled and unskilled facets of cleaning, including but not limited to: restroom cleaning; sweeping, dust mopping, damp/wet mopping, and vacuuming floors; emptying trash; spot clean carpet and upholstery; dust, clean, scrub, and polish various building surfaces and fixtures.
Perform special projects including, but not limited to: overhead vacuuming, wall washing, window washing, tighten toilet seats, removal of graffiti, removal of unusual stains from carpet and upholstery, removal of furniture and large amounts of trash before and after events.
Perform emergency cleanup tasks as needed. This includes flooding and water damage, chemicals, sewage, bodily fluids, broken glass and cleaning of areas after repairs have been done (such as drywall and cement dust).
Maintain custodial closets in a clean and orderly manner.
Clean and maintain janitorial equipment and machines. Notify supervisor of malfunctions requiring complex repairs and tag the affected machines.
Perform other cleaning tasks upon request.
Responsible for assigned areas as designated by supervisor. Work independently with minimal direction.
Job Essential Function 2
Percent of Time: 10%
Serve as work leader for Custodians as needed.
Keep designated work areas, as well as security area, locked after hours. Be continually aware of building security during shift.
Report all security problems including unlocked doors, unsecured doors, broken locks, malfunction of alarm pads.
Responsible for keys and equipment assigned.
Inform supervisor to conditions that might require repair, replacement, or documenting.
Assist with locking/unlocking areas of work.
Other responsibilities as assigned.
Job Essential Function 3
Percent of Time: 5%
Move furniture, stock and supplies.
Rearrange and replace furniture after cleaning.
Inventory furniture and ensure proper placement.
Assist with arranging furniture according to specific layouts in the conference area.
Other tasks upon request.
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:
Previous substantial general custodial experience.
Substantial experience in one of the following categories:
Hard Floor Care
General knowledge of safety precautions in the use of equipment, chemicals, lifting, customer traffic, etc.
Understand the emergency preparation and response plan.
Cleaning Skills able to sweep, vacuum, mop, dust, polish, perform overhead cleaning, wash walls & windows, clean bathrooms and kitchens, and clean other building surfaces.
Ability to use all cleaning equipment: floor machines for bonneting, buffing, and polishing, extractors, upholstery machines, tank vacuums, upright and backpack vacuums, wide area vacuums, mops and brooms, extension poles, short ladders, etc.
Basic knowledge of cleaning chemicals, ability to select appropriate chemical for the job, ability to mix and dilute chemicals appropriately, and handle chemicals safely.
Ability to read and understand labels or instructions for cleaning solutions utilized in housekeeping as well as basic work instructions from supervisor.
Ability to read, write, give and follow oral and written instructions in English.
Ability to repair orders.
Ability to communicate effectively with students, co-workers, and supervisor.
Ability to work well with the public.
Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
Ability to learn and implement security measures.
Ability follow setup diagrams for conference rooms and lounges.
Bilingual (English/Spanish) skills.
Experience in cleaning high security areas.
Required: One year minimum experience as a senior custodian or lead custodian.
Substantial experience in a large event venue.
Must have a valid California Driver s License, as they may be required to drive a University vehicle.
