Educational Experience Requirement: Associate degree or sixty college hours required. Library experience would be helpful. A combination of education, experience, and training that would produce the required knowledge and abilities could be considered.

Nature and Purpose of Position: To provide responsible technical, supervisory, and public services skills necessary in the operation of a specific work unit in the university library. Responsible for performing specialized duties requiring advanced operational skills and technical knowledge of library practices and procedures.

Primary Responsibilities: Assists with sorting, organizing, applying metadata, and scanning documents and images from the University Archives and in the Thomason Special Collections Department. Provides staffing support for the reading room of the Thomason Special Collections Department, answering requests via email and in person. Will assist with projects in both the Archives and Special Collections Departments as needed. Provides backup to the Special Collections Librarian and University Archivist in patron services and instruction in absence of library associate;requires high level of professionalism, greeting patrons and offering tours on a daily basis. Position spends 75% of time in detailed preservation, processing and description of archival materials and 25% of time in working with the researching public.

Other Specifications: Normally will be involved in routine contacts with faculty, staff, students, and other patrons and some important contacts with other universities up to or more than 50% of the time. Therefore, ability to deal effectively in contacts with people is necessary. Working conditions are normally in a semi-private or general working area of the library with little or no disagreeable conditions. Ability to operate general office machines and familiarity with Windows type computer applications is needed. Must be able to lift and carry boxes; load and push book trucks; and shelve books. May require the ability to type. Work schedules are generally 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. However, work schedules may vary according to library needs which include evening work and weekends. Some positions are scheduled exclusively for evening and weekend work.
