Position Description Summary:

The Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics of the GWU School of Public Health and Health Services is recruiting for one or two dynamic and innovative full-time tenure track or tenured positions at the rank of Assistant, Associate or Full Professor in Epidemiology. The successful candidate(s) will develop a program of sponsored research as well as teaching and mentoring graduate students in the Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics. The Search Committee encourages applications from laboratory-based investigators as well.


Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

The successful candidates will devote approximately 50% of their efforts to obtaining, implementing or overseeing funded research and 50% to teaching and educational administration.


Minimum Qualifications:

Applicants must have a PhD or ScD in epidemiology or an MD with a Master’s level degree in epidemiology, and must have experience publishing in peer-reviewed journals, teaching graduate level courses in epidemiology methods, and proposing and/or implementing funded research.


Advertised Salary: Academic rank and salary will be commensurate with experience.

The Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics has expertise in cancer, HIV/AIDS, surveillance, behavioral, and reproductive health epidemiology; and in health disparities research, public health laboratory science, geographical health information systems, and biostatistical methods. GWU is rapidly expanding its research enterprise with the addition of a new building for the SPHHS and a new Science and Engineering Complex.

The Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics oversees the MPH, MS and PhD programs in epidemiology, MPH program in biostatistics, MS program in public health microbiology and emerging infectious diseases as well as participating in joint programs, certificate programs, and the undergraduate public health program. The Department collaborates with the Department of Statistics for the MS and PhD programs in Biostatistics.
