Job Description Summary:

The managing editor for multimedia will oversee multimedia content for the George Washington University''s flagship publications, including George Washington Today and GW Magazine. The managing editor will provide strategic direction on email marketing best practices and utilizing photo, video, social media and interactive tools to showcase content and build readership.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor''s degree in English, Journalism, Communications or other related field plus 5 years of relevant experience. Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Desired Qualifications:

Degree in journalism and knowledge of AP style preferred.

Experience in journalism and digital storytelling and a demonstrated ability to complete high-quality work under tight deadlines.

Experience with Drupal 7, photo and video editing, email marketing and social media strategy.

Job Duties
  • Oversee multimedia content for George Washington Today, GW Magazine and other External Relations publications in close collaboration with the Marketing & Creative Services (MCS) team. Collaborate with MCS photographers and videographers and freelancers as needed to conceptualize and provide direction for photo and video shoots. Work closely with division''s editorial and online strategy team to build upon existing web properties with a goal of driving traffic to the George Washington Today website as the primary source of news about the university.

  • Assume executional responsibility for maintaining and updating the George Washington Today and GW Magazine websites (both built in Drupal 7). Oversee email marketing initiatives for these publications using the university''s email marketing solution. Ensure content is updated frequently to help reinforce the George Washington Today website as the destination for timely news and information about the university. Consult with the online strategy team to continue to make enhancements to publication websites. Use analytics to track readership, assess success and implement improvements.

  • Manage social media, including Facebook and Twitter accounts, for George Washington Today and GW Magazine with a goal of expanding social media reach and building readership among GW students, alumni, faculty and staff, and other audiences, such as peer institutions, potential research partners and donors.

  • Performs other work related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.
