Job Description: As an officer in the Division of University Advancement at East Carolina University, the Major Gift Officer is responsible for the cultivation and solicitation of major gifts to East Carolina University from individuals and organizations. Plan, organize, and implement major and planned gift fundraising activities for commitments of $25,000 and above Target major gift acquisition efforts and expand donor base Personalize solicitations Participate in the evaluation of major and planned gift prospects Manage a portfolio of major and planned gift prospects by identifying and implementing appropriate cultivation and solicitation activities Prepare proposals and presentations for donor prospects, solicit gifts and negotiate gift agreements. Coordinate the involvement of appropriate boards, administrators, and faculty or staff members in the planning of solicitation strategies. Coordinate major giving activities with other development strategies such as annual fund and college based development officers. Plan and/or coordinate special events to recognize and entertain donor and prospects The Major Gift Officer will be expected to: Work with the Director of Prospect Research to develop a program of data-mining to result in increases in prospects reached and dollars raised. Work with the appropriate University Development officer(s) to develop solicitation strategies for Chancellors' Society level donors. Work with the Database Administrator to help ensure accuracy in the database. Work with Gift Records officers to help ensure accurate gift recording, pledge reminder and acknowledgement processes. Collaborate with team of Major Gift Officers Work with other members of the advancement staff to accomplish the goals and objectives of the Division of University Advancement. Work strategically with the College of Business Director of Development Work collaboratively with the Office of Alumni Relations to develop the most effective and mutually beneficial means of approaching the alumni population. Strive to develop a workforce that is highly capable, effective, efficient, cooperative, harmonious, team oriented, and keeps the total university picture in the forefront. Provide appropriate reports and documents of accountability. Readily accept the obligation of accountability. Travel extensively to identify and qualify prospects and conduct prospect and donor cultivation, solicitation and stewardship Attend special events and University functions to make contact with prospects and donors Reporting Relationship: The Major Gift Officer reports directly to the Associate Vice Chancellor for University Development with an indirect reporting line to the Dean of the College of Business

Minimum Qualifications: The Major Gift Officer will be a fundraising professional who knows and understands the culture, nature, and purpose of development/advancement activities as they apply to the university environment. The Major Gift Officer should possess at a minimum: Bachelor's degree (Master's preferred) Three years of experience in conducting successful personal solicitations for major gift fundraising or other pertinent/transferrable relevant experience. Excellent oral and written communication skills, demonstrated competence in delivering presentations to individuals or groups. Ability to interact positively with a wide range of individuals and position levels. Initiative, innovation, and creativity. Ability to plan, organize, implement, oversee, and coordinate multiple tasks and meet deadlines. Integrity, sincerity, and the drive for success. Willing to approach roles and tasks with a commitment to the mission and values of East Carolina University Qualifying degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions and conferred by the time of hire.
