Position Information:
This position reports to the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs and provides leadership and accountability for the administration, development, assessment and improvement of student services and experiences which meet the University and divisional missions and strategic plans and helps ensure that the experience outside the classroom is as rewarding as the academic experience.

Additionally, this position provides strategic direction to 15 departments in Student Affairs focused on student success and development. The AVC/DOS division includes 85 permanent staff and departmental permanent operating budgets of over $17.7 million involving multiple fund sources and various student services along with various grants and contracts. Finally, the Assistant Vice Chancellor/Dean of Students plays a central role in responding to student crises and emergencies and serves as a student advocate within the University community.
Minimum Requirements:
- Education and experience equivalent to a Master's Degree.

- Ability to manage multiple Student Services departments and to successfully direct and lead staff, setting specific, measureable, realistic goals for each department and/or individual staff members.

- Ability to identify, define, and evaluate problems, and to plan and develop appropriate long-term and immediate strategies and solutions. Developing procedures and methodology, which establish priorities to achieve desired results and objectives for multiple offices and the campus.

- Ability to elicit cooperation among staff and ensure open productive communication at all levels involving others in the decision-making process and ensure staff effectiveness by fostering collaborative and supportive relations.

- Ability to counsel students and effectively interact with students, staff, faculty, alumni, parents, and other members of the community.

- Ability to effectively communicate in writing and oral presentations.

- Ability to analyze short-term and long-term fiscal needs and address them through systematic analysis and implementation of revenue-generating options including fees grants and fund-raising efforts.

- Ability to identify student populations, conduct research, and direct programs and support services aimed at diverse student constituencies.

- Knowledge of full range of programs and services provided in a university student service division. Including knowledge of employment law and fair employment practices and means of pursuing grievances and seeking redress.

Preferred Qualifications:
- Ph.D. or equivalent combination of education and experience.

- Knowledge of human resources policies and practices, including classification systems, compensation issues and selection processes.
