Albion College in Albion, Michigan seeks a highly qualified and experienced financial leader to join President-Elect Mauri Ditzler’s leadership team as the Vice President for Finance and Administration. President-Elect Ditzler will begin his first year at Albion College in July 2014. The Vice President will be responsible for a multi-faceted operation that includes oversight of the work of the Controller, the Director of Business and Auxiliary Services, Director of Human Resources, Director of Facilities Operations, and Director of Enterprise Technology. The new Vice President for Finance and Administration is expected to begin in summer of 2014. Albion College is a private four-year college of the liberal arts, historically related to the United Methodist Church. Founded in 1835, Albion College was the first private college in Michigan to have a chapter of Phi Beta Kappa. It is a nationally recognized residential liberal arts college, celebrated for its tradition of academic excellence. Albion has long pioneered innovative programs that meld rigorous study in the arts and sciences with pre-professional opportunities. With a student/faculty ratio of 11:1, the 105 faculty work closely with students in the academic program and experiential settings. The 1307 Albion students come from a wide range of backgrounds. The student body is generally made up of 49% men and 51% women. About 90% of the students live in the residential halls and apartments on campus. Although students come from 21 states and 21 countries, approximately 90% of the students come from Michigan. Typically, around one quarter of the entering class will rank in the top ten percent of their high school class and half are in the top twenty-five percent. The middle fifty percent have ACT scores ranging from 22 to 28. The residential campus occupies 110 acres and occupies more than 1.4 million square feet of interior space in 30 major campus buildings. More than $83 million have been invested in renovations and new facilities over the past 15 years with the latest being the LEED-certified Science Complex and the Held Equestrian Center. To provide the leadership required in this position, the VP for Finance and Administration should possess a certain combination of personal qualities and professional expe¬rience. S/he should possess deep integrity, a high level of energy and an outstanding work ethic. Preference will be given to those with a master’s degree in a related field and/or a CPA and to candidates with experience in higher education; however, candidates from other areas of financial manage¬ment will be considered. The new VP for Finance and Administration will have a proven track record of strategic decision-making and leadership as well as knowledge and understanding of cash and endowment management, facilities planning and management, risk management, debt management, budgeting, human resources, and information technology.
