10-Month Contract Position
The salary range for this Assistant Professor level position is $5,329.73 – $6,803.29 per month. Note that all new faculty hired by the SDCCD start at the Assistant Professor level. Overload assignments are paid based on contract parity using the Adjunct/Overload College Classroom and Non-Classroom, Schedules B and C. Salary placement is based solely upon education and experience as outlined in the AFT Faculty Collective Bargaining Agreement, and it is non-negotiable. Annual Salaries will be recalculated for service less than a full academic year based on Education Code §87815, any required adjustment will be made on the first pay period. Travel reimbursement for interviewees traveling more than 200 miles, one-way, will be paid according to geographic location (see SDCCD Travel Stipend Policy, Rev 7/14/2011). Assistant Professors may earn tenure after 4 years and promote to Associate Professor.

Applications are now being accepted for the position of Assistant Professor, Behavioral Sciences/Alcohol and Other Drug Studies at San Diego City College beginning Fall 2014. One of three colleges in the San Diego Community College District, City College is an urban campus, minutes away from a world-class zoo and Balboa Park, providing academic and career-technical offerings to meet the needs of a diverse student population.
While the current vacancy is at City College, applicants should understand that they are subject to assignment at any District facility at the option of the Chancellor. Assignment may include day, evening, Saturday, and/or off-campus classes. In addition, this pool may be used to fill identical vacancies that may occur during the 2014-15 academic year.
The Assistant Professor of Behavioral Sciences/ Alcohol and Other Drug Studies is a member of the Behavioral Sciences Department and reports to the Dean of the School of Behavioral & Social Sciences and Consumer & Family Studies. The Behavioral Sciences Department includes the disciplines of Anthropology, Psychology, Sociology, Alcohol & Other Drug Studies, Human Services, Future Studies, and Peace Studies.
Primary responsibilities for the new Behavioral Sciences/Alcohol and Other Drug Studies faculty member are teaching Pharmacology of Psychoactive Substances, Introduction to Chemical Dependency, Prevention, Intervention, Law and Ethics, Chemical Dependency Case Management, Family Counseling, Group Dynamics, Chemical Dependency Internship and Seminar.
The assignment will be 15 class hours per week. Additional responsibilities of (College) faculty include maintaining regular office hours for student advisement, serving on college and District committees, participating in various departmental and college activities, developing curriculum, and willingness to take on leadership roles in the department.
Degrees must be from regionally accredited institutions
1. Any bachelor’s degree AND two years of professional experience; OR,
2. Any associate degree AND six years of professional experience.; OR,
3. The equivalent; OR,
4. Possession of a California Community College Instructor Credential (valid for life) in Psychology.

• Master’s degree in Chemical Dependency Counseling, Psychology, Clinical Psychology, Marriage and Family Therapy, Rehabilitation Counseling, or Social Work preferred.
• Graduate preparation in psychology, clinical psychology, sociology, social work, chemical dependency counseling, rehabilitation counseling, or marriage and family therapy with emphasis in Alcohol and Other Drug Studies.
• Experience teaching Alcohol and Other Drug Studies courses, such as Introduction to Chemical Dependency, Group Dynamics, Family Counseling, Case Management, Co-Occurring Disorders, and Prevention, Intervention, Law and Ethics.
• Experience in the field of Chemical Dependency counseling.
• Outstanding oral and written communication skills.
• Experience working with individuals having diverse learning abilities.
• Experience using non-traditional teaching methods and technologies and computer technology in the classroom.
• Currency in the field of Alcohol and Drug Studies.
• Experience developing and/or reviewing courses, curriculum, and/or new programs.
• Experience establishing cooperative working relationships with others.
• Cultural competency working with diverse academic, socioeconomic and ethnic backgrounds of community college students and staff.
• Knowledge of the California Community College mission.
