THE UNIVERSITY: Located in the heart of Boston and a leader in interdisciplinary research, urban engagement and the integration of classroom learning with real-world experience, Northeastern offers a comprehensive range of undergraduate and graduate programs in seven undergraduate colleges, graduate schools, a Global Network that includes two regional campuses (Charlotte, NC, and Seattle, WA) and a Law School. Experiential education at Northeastern includes the nation’s foremost program of cooperative education, a model that connects students with paid professional positions related to their field of study. Recruitment and enrollment of a high talent and diverse student body is among the top priorities of the university. The University has organized the responsibility for its multiple markets, recruitment, retention and the student experience into a single division—Enrollment Management & Student Affairs (EMSA)–to maximize the university’s capacity to recruit, retain and graduate students as well as provide services and experiences that promote student success by integrating the out-of-classroom experience with the student’s needs, expectations, goals, growth and development. The division strives to build a positive social and cultural climate, a student-centered service environment and a high quality campus life. The EMSA division at Northeastern also acts as a mechanism for feedback to the institution regarding student and market issues. The university seeks to build upon the extraordinary enrollment successes of the last fifteen years to become ever more competitive in domestic enrollment, to develop new international markets, to fine-tune its messaging and branding, to enhance affordability and to boost yield. Over the past ten years of investment, growth and tremendous momentum, freshman retention has risen to 96 percent and the six-year graduation rate has improved to over 83 percent and tracking upwards of 86 percent for enrollment cohorts. Northeastern is now among the top five private institutions with the largest number of applications; for the fall of 2014 Northeastern received nearly 50,000 applications and this past fall welcomed a very talented entering class.
