Vice President for Academic Affairs
Posting Description: The vice president is the academic affairs officer for the CU system and, at the direction of the president, develops and implements system-wide academic policy initiatives and directives. He or she works collaboratively with the other vice presidents and coordinates closely with campus provosts on their development and review of undergraduate academic programs and graduate/professional programs. The vice president collaborates with campus leadership and faculty governance in the review and development of system academic policies and serves as the liaison to the State of Colorado on statewide initiatives that affect the university's academic enterprise. In addition, the vice president supports the university's efforts to champion diversity and inclusive excellence and to expand the use of technology to enhance learning, research and service. This position is exempt from the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act. This security-sensitive position requires a criminal and financial background check for initial appointments or at any time when determined by the president to be in the best interest of the university.
Minimum Qualifications: * Doctorate or equivalent terminal degree from an accredited institution of higher education * Demonstrated excellence in teaching, research, and service * Five years' experience as a tenured faculty member at an accredited institution of higher education; must hold, have held, or be eligible for a tenured faculty position within CU * Five years' academic leadership experience, balancing higher education resources and funding requirements to achieve institutional strategic goals * Demonstrated organizational skills * Demonstrated ability to identify and promote excellence * Demonstrated sound academic judgment * Demonstrated ability to identify and analyze problems and, when needed, assemble teams to resolve them * A collaborative work style
Required Competencies/Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Desired Qualifications: * Ten years' professional leadership experience in organizational management and administration in a higher education setting (may be concurrent with other professional experience qualifications) * One or more academic department chair appointments or equivalent, where experience included promotion and tenure and/or privilege and tenure review * Appointment as full professor * Experience in public policy * Experience in public presentation, written and oral
