Job Description Summary
The Science/Math tutor provides SSS students with supplemental academic support. The tutor works with adult college students who are taking developmental and college level math classes and/or introductory level science classes. The tutor assists students in achieving academic success.
The Science/Math tutor will conduct individual and/or small group tutoring sessions. The tutor will assist in diagnosing students' strengths and weaknesses in tutoring area(s), maintain accurate and timely documentation of tutoring sessions, meet regularly with SSS staff to evaluate students' progress, and contact faculty regarding student progress and course content/material as needed.
The tutor also develops and implements non-credit workshops.
The Science and Math tutor must have a bachelor's degree in math or science. The tutor needs to have the demonstrated ability to tutor adult college students taking introductory biology, chemistry, or physics classes and demonstrated ability to tutor adults taking developmental and college level math classes. The tutor must have sensitivity in working with culturally diverse students. The tutor must have experience using graphing and scientific calculators, computer application knowledge (Word and Excel),and strong written and interpersonal communications skills.
