Posting Information: Department of Philosophy and Religion Assistant Professor Position # 2327 The Department of Philosophy and Religion at Western Carolina University invites applications for a tenure-track appointment in Religion at the Assistant Professor level, beginning August 1, 2014. Must have Ph.D. in Religion or related field from an accredited institution in hand by date of appointment. The successful candidate will teach a 3-3 load with standard scholarship and service expectations, and will have the opportunity for both teaching and research mentorship by a highly supportive, collegial department. We seek a colleague with a strong teaching record and commitment to teaching undergraduate liberal studies courses. The area of specialization is open, but preference will be given to candidates who can teach Eastern Religious Traditions and a general introduction to religious studies. The Philosophy and Religion program offers a BA in philosophy with major concentrations in both Philosophy and Religion and also contributes robustly to the University's Liberal Studies program. Our departmental emphasis is on issues at the intersection of philosophy and religion, particularly in the ethical, social, and political dimensions that impact people's lives, and as such we offer students a number of engaged learning opportunities. Western Carolina University is a 10,000-student campus in the University of North Carolina system that offers 120 areas of study for undergraduates and more than 50 graduate-level programs. The Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools accredits WCU to award baccalaureate, masters, education specialist, and doctoral degrees. The campus is located in the picturesque Cullowhee valley between the Great Smoky and Blue Ridge mountains, 50 miles west of Asheville, North Carolina, and 150 miles northeast of Atlanta. Preference will be given to candidates who can demonstrate a commitment to public engagement through their teaching, service, and scholarship.

Minimum Training & Experience Requirements: Ph.D. in hand by date of appointment. Degree must be from an appropriately accredited institution.
