Position Summary: International Programs invites applications for a full-time (1.0 FTE), 12-month, fixed term Graduate Progression Advisor position. Reappointment is at the discretion of the Director.
This position will advise Graduate Pathway students in regards to their academic planning and progress using advising and guidance skills. This will involve explaining university academic policy and procedures to assist students in gaining entrance to OSU and following a successful academic path to graduation. This position may also advise students in the other INTO OSU programs as required.
The volume of students studying in the INTO OSU Center has increased substantially, and is likely to continue to do so in the coming years. This position will focus on transitioning those Graduate Pathway students into the academic departments of the University and will work alongside the Undergraduate Pathway Progression Advisor.
The primary function of the role is to ensure the highest possible number of students to progress to OSU Graduate degree programs.
The Progression Advisor will be located in the INTO OSU Center, the location that will best facilitate building relationships with INTO OSU Pathways students, and will also spend a considerable amount of time out in the academic units, working with their administrative and advising staffs.
The role is expected to be varied, and will liaise with offices around the campus community, including academic units, Academic Affairs, Student Affairs, etc.
Position Duties: 60% - Program of Transition for International Students
The primary function of the role is to ensure that the highest possible number of INTO OSU Pathways, Academic English and General English students progress to OSU degree programs. The focus of this role is specifically on Graduate Pathway students and includes those in General English and Academic English programs that are headed for Graduate Pathways programs.
Develop and lead a program of transition for international students as they progress from INTO OSU programs into the University's academic programs, targeting the graduate level, as well as specific programs (engineering, business, etc.). This involves liaising with departmental orientation programs and graduate school orientation programs.
The transition work will likely include the development of transition workshops on entry to the Graduate Pathway program, during the Graduate Pathway program and as the student transitions into Graduate Study at OSU.
Enhance liaison activity, development of processes and flow of information, including preparation and dissemination of predictive reports, related to the progression of students into OSU academic programs. Ensure mutual understanding and appropriate discussion/consultation between INTO OSU and other University units on academic developments.
Minimize attrition rate of INTO OSU students progressing to OSU by ensuring quality of briefing/transition/support arrangements and maintaining contact with students during their early weeks. Ensure that any continuing language support needs of INTO OSU students entering OSU are understood and provided for.
30% - Establish and Maintain Communication with Academic Units, the Graduate School and Admissions
Act as primary link point with academic units, the Graduate School and admissions during the admissions process at the stage of progression with a particular emphasis on the flow and accuracy of applicant information.
Develop, propose and lead a program of engagement with INTO OSU students to maximize volume and quality of applicants to OSU academic programs.
Assist with the gathering of feedback in the academic units on the performance and skills of the ex-Graduate Pathway students in comparison to domestic students and direct international students and the communication of this feedback to the INTO OSU Director of Academic Programs and Pathway team.
10% - Program Administration & Other Duties
Engage with INTO OSU management team on a regular and appropriate basis.
Establish and maintain good working relationships with colleagues in INTO OSU, the Division of International Programs, and throughout the University community.
Provide timely and accurate management information as required by the Associate Provost for International Programs, INTO OSU Center Director, INTO OSU Academic Director, Director of International Admissions, Director of the Student Experience, the Provost, or the INTO OSU Joint Venture Board.
This position may provide occasional support to the wider recruitment effort by traveling for exhibitions, fairs and other activity. Other duties as assigned by the Director of Academic Programs

Minimum/Required Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in any field.
Experience working with international students or scholars (academic setting preferred).
Prior academic advising experience.
Experience in developing programs for international students or scholars.
Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication, and organizational skills.
Demonstrated ability working as a productive member of a team.
Ability to help others from diverse cultures who have various levels of English proficiency.
Ability to plan, develop, and implement programs and activities for students.
Computer and electronic communication literacy.
Preferred (Special) Qualifications: Master's degree
Foreign language competency
Overseas living experience
