Position Summary: Oregon University Systems (OUS) Study Abroad Programs, a division of International Programs, invites applications for a full-time (1.0 FTE), 12-month, fixed-term International Program Advisor position. Reappointment is at the discretion of the Director.

The Program Advisor's responsibility is to provide student advising and student support services to past, present and future IE3 interns, and to potential and current applicants for internships worldwide. In addition, they will facilitate site placement with the host sites assigned providing coordination and utilizing online technology and proven cross-cultural communication skills. This position will be housed with the International Programs and Exchanges (IPE) offices at the University of Washington in Seattle.

The Program Advisor is an integral part of the IE3 Global Internships team charged with program promotion, assessing student qualifications for a successful international internship, providing comprehensive support to interns throughout the program, evaluating their experience, and supporting the day-to-day management of an international internship program. The Program Advisor assesses the students' abilities to succeed abroad in a professional work setting and coordinates with other IE3 Program Advisors and the IE3 Program Director to determine the best host site match possible to fit students' academic, professional and cultural goals.

The Program Advisor is directly supervised by the Program Director(s) as assigned.

Management and continued development of the IE3 program rests with the management team and is not a requirement of this position.

The Program Advisor position requires occasional weekend and evening work and travel within the Pacific Northwest and nationally. International travel may be assigned but is not a guarantee of this position.

The IE3 Global Internships program involves all institutions of the Oregon University System (OUS), additional in-state and out-of-state partner universities, and other private partner and host organizations. The internship program provides students with academically accredited opportunities for short-term professional assignments abroad in preparation for careers in the global economy.

Position Duties: 70% Student Recruitment, Advising and Support

Guide students through site selection and application process in conjunction with host site staff and university partners

Manage internship applications in the assigned Region(s) and select student applications for compatibility with internship sites

Teach , counsel and advise students on the preparation of professional resumes and cover letters for international standards

Co-facilitate general orientation to ensure student preparedness

Support students during internship and after their return through frequent communication and professional coaching

Monitor/evaluate performance of each intern while abroad and upon their return

Develop handbooks and web pages for internship sites within assigned region

Liaison with interns in emergency response or medical evacuation and coordinate with insurance company as required

Serve as primary point of contact for member campus advisors on applicant-related matters

Serve as scholarship advisor for IE3 applicants, supporting them as they apply for IE3, campus and external scholarships available for the region

Participate in regular meetings with Program Directors to keep informed of developments, and assure consistency across student advising

Liaison with the Program Director, Interns and Host Site Supervisors

Correspond regularly with interns to reinforce cultural and professional objectives

Lead overall student program evaluation, analysis and other student reporting requirements

Assist with the maintenance of data management and communication materials

Maintain materials relevant to student support, orientation and the online application system

Update position descriptions with most current information regarding host sites, including photos, final reports, etc. and gather that information from the students

Promote the OUSIP/IE3 program by conducting information and advising sessions and other presentations for students on partner campuses. Which will result in some traveling.

Represent OUSIP/IE3 at Study Abroad fairs on partner campuses and other related events as assigned

Communicate with Program Directors, Marketing Coordinator and Associate Director about perceived student demand and campus needs to ensure strategic development of a diverse internship portfolio

25% Provide curriculum integration support to faculty, departments, schools and colleges

Promote outreach of the OUSIP/IE3 program at UW by strategically attending faculty meetings, networking with head advisors and staff.

Solicit international site development from the Deans, Faculty, Head Advisors, etc. to best integrate into course credit and curriculum equivalencies

Support students in options for independent study and other research or experiential learning outcomes

5% Provide student backstopping support for Program Director(s)

Assume primary contact for any students abroad when one of the IE3 Program Directors is absent or traveling

In the event of two (or more) staff being absent at one time, position holder will coordinate backstopping responsibilities with other team members.

Working Conditions/Work Schedule: This position will be housed at the University of Washington, Seattle, Washington.

Minimum/Required Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in a related field such as but not limited to international studies, student services, etc.

Must have at least one year of work experience with advising of students in a higher education setting

Previous experience working and/or studying abroad

Demonstrated skills in marketing, public speaking and program promotion

Excellent written and verbal communication skills including strong interpersonal and advising skills, especially in communicating through online mediums including, email, Skype, social media, etc.

Strong computer skills (word processing, spreadsheets, databases, virtual online communication systems)

Self-starter with excellent attention to detail.

Proven intercultural competency specifically focused on effective communication in diverse cultural situations including, but not limited to, differentiation of approach in high context/low context cultures

Demonstrated ability to work and collaborate with a virtual team and remain highly productive with minimal on-site supervision

A demonstrable commitment to promoting and enhancing diversity with the ability to work in a collaborative, dynamic work setting

This position is designated as a critical or security-sensitive position; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a Criminal History Check and be determined to be position qualified as per OAR 576-055-0000 et seq. Incumbents are required to self-report convictions and those in Youth Programs may have additional Criminal History Checks every 24 months.

This position requires driving a University vehicle or a personal vehicle on behalf of the University; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a Motor Vehicle History Check, possess and maintain a current, valid driver's license in their state of residence, be determined to be position qualified and self-report convictions (as per Voluntary and Compulsory Driver Standards OAR 125-155-0200) as per OAR 576-056-0000 et seq.

Preferred (Special) Qualifications: Master's degree in related field such as but not limited to international studies, student services, etc.

Prior experience in higher education curriculum development and program integration; service learning and experiential learning outcomes

Knowledge with developing on-line teaching platforms and e-courses, i.e. Blackboard, etc.

Specific preparation and experience in cross-cultural training and experience with Asian cultures

Substantial work experience or international education with service abroad, especially in Asia

Demonstrated ability to easily communicate professionally, verbally and in writing, in one or more Asian language (i.e. Mandarin, Cantonese, Japanese, Korean, Hindi, etc.)

Familiarity with student management software preferred i.e.: Studio Abroad, Application Gateway, etc.

The ideal candidate would have prior knowledge and/or experience of IE3 Global Internships
