Position Western State Colorado University invites applications for a dean of the new School of Business. Currently called the Department of Business Administration, Accounting and Economics (BAE), it hosts Western’s largest academic discipline, Business Administration, and offers some of Western’s highest quality academic programs. From the three disciplines, twelve emphases are offered, ranging from Entrepreneurship, Marketing, Latin American Business, Professional Land and Resource Management, to Teacher Licensure in Economics. The dean will serve as the primary academic leader for the School, providing vision, oversight, and direction for programs of study, and report to the Vice President for Academic Affairs. Duties As the chief academic, fiscal, and administrative officer for the School of Business, the dean will be an innovator and model for leadership excellence. A principal responsibility will be to promote the Business School and build external relationships to recruit students, build a donor base, and place students in internships and careers. The dean will oversee strategic planning and implementation that aligns with the mission and goals of the University, and will collaborate across the University and the region to ensure academic quality, program growth, and student success. The exciting venture of developing the School of Business will include building a strong vision for the School through initiatives such as the elevation of signature programs, identifying strategic opportunities, exploration of the building of a new MBA program, accreditation, active participation in campus leadership as a member of the Chairs and Directors Council. The dean will supervise an assistant dean who oversees tenure-track, tenured and temporary faculty, as well as support staff. Qualifications The successful candidate will have a demonstrated record of success in management and collaboration in an academic environment, knowledge of the accreditation process, fundraising and development, experience in building partnerships, recruitment of students and faculty, and strategic planning. Private sector business success is advantageous. The dean should have exemplary interpersonal, communicative, and collaborative skills, with an ability to energize the School’s many constituencies. Ph. D. or terminal degree in appropriate field strongly preferred.
