Under the direction of the Associate Dean of Distance Learning, with a dotted line to the Director of Marketing and Communications, the Manager of Multimedia Services is responsible for managing the production support for video and other multimedia projects through the UCI Distance Learning Center and UCI Extension. The manager consults with clients and content specialists including faculty, staff, and other outside entities during project development to determine the goals and objectives of productions. He/she manages a team of multimedia specialists that handle all pre-and-post production activities; including coordination of video subjects, facilitation of interviews, and execution of all filming, staging, and editing, and managing closely related services such as animation.The manager reviews technical standards for multimedia standards and assures consistency and compliance with those standards.

 

The ideal candidate must have the ability to establish and maintain relationships across hierarchical and organizational lines. The manager will regularly use and supervise others in the use of technical equipment such as cameras, lights, and sound recording tools as well as software that supports the mixing, editing, and publishing of multimedia assets. The manager must thoroughly understand and utilize the capabilities and limitations of such equipment.

 

Salary: Monthly $4,683

Work Schedule: 8-5, M-F

Career Position.

Some evening or weekend work may be required

Manage Multimedia Services Team
 
Manages team of multimedia services specialists in executing the filming and staging of lectures, seminars, interviews, conferences, and other projects on campus and in the community. Mentors members of the team regarding the best strategies for filming, editing, and creating multimedia assets, including classroom lectures/presentations, interactive learning activities, and demonstration videos.
 
Makes recommendations to the Associate Dean of Distance Learning on processes and equipment necessary to improve multimedia capabilities.  Annually prepares equipment recommendations reflecting current needs, anticipated future needs and corresponding cost estimates.
 
Manages final editing process handled by multimedia specialists through video editing software and learning object development software to apply introductions, transitions, interactive elements, and other effects. Works with the Director of OpenCourseWare and the Associate Dean of Distance Learning to finalize content for use in various OpenCourseWare and traditional course channels.  
 
Maintains a master schedule of video projects for the unit. Assigns scheduled tasks to multimedia specialists.

Video Project Management and Marketing
         
The incumbent is responsible for managing ongoing video projects as assigned, including all pre-and-post production activities for projects.  Develops project timelines, initiates a schedule for filming, coordinates with instructors, students and other video subjects, facilitates interviews, and conducts all filming, staging, and editing for the project.

Coordinates with marketing staff and campus personnel on cataloging and scanning any archival materials needed for videos.  
 
Develops and maintains relationships with campus academic departments, faculty, and staff. Assists with marketing the DLC multimedia services to campus units.
 

Planning Unit Support
Works with Marketing Account Executives (MAEs) and Extension s planning units on project planning and implementation.  Prepares and edits webinar content for distribution on various social media sites. Coordinates with Webmaster to post content to the Extension website.
 
Manages the filming and editing of Extension-wide events throughout the year (i.e. instructor breakfast, certificate award ceremony).  Works with Marketing staff to coordinate interviews with instructors, students, and other campus representatives.
 
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:
 
Required:
Ability to manage a team of multimedia specialists, including the training, coaching and mentoring of the employees
Ability to lead the annual review process for multimedia specialists and take any action necessary to improve performance and job satisfaction of employees
Expertise in utilizing video editing software (Adobe Premiere, Sony Vega Pro, etc.) to create high quality, high impact video assets
Experience with multimedia asset development software (Camtasia Studio and Storyline)
Experience using video cameras, managing lighting and sound equipment, and staging.
Demonstrated experience with transitions, effects and other post production techniques and tools
Ability to specify necessary equipment to improve video capabilities
Excellent attention to detail and proofreading skills
Ability to analyze and resolve problems
Excellent organizational skills, including time management and project management experience.
Excellent communication skills including a superior command of the English language, grammar, and spelling
Ability to prioritize and organize multiple tasks and meet deadlines
