GENERAL DUTIES

Provides academic counseling and planning services to a diverse student population.

- Assists students with clarifying values and goals; counsels students regarding educational options, requirements, policies and procedures. 

- Offers academic and personal support to guide students through the course selection process

- Provides students with effective and timely referral to other college and external support services 

- Monitors and evaluates students' educational progress by conducting academic progress audits

- Establishes and maintains student files, databases and records; prepares activity reports and analyses

- May specialize in providing advice on specific programs or to specific student groups

- Performs related duties as assigned.

CAMPUS SPECIFIC INFORMATION

The Academic Advisor will report to the Chair in conducting responsibilities which include assisting with:
- Tracking and providing advising to undergraduate economics, business, and accounting students.
- Evaluating economic, business, and accounting transfer credits for all Lehman College students.
- Identifying and determining what students are eligible to receive departmental academic assistance.
- Maintaining student advisement files and preparing activity reports and analyses.
- Monitoring the academic progress of students and refer students to support services as needed.
- Communicating and coordinating with other relevant departments such as the Career Services, Counseling Services, SEEK Office, the Registrar's Office etc.
- Counseling and assisting students who are required to change majors to select appropriate new majors.
- Deciding schedule of classes in consultation with the Chairperson and Advisor.
- Monitoring departmental GPA requirements and calculating departmental GPAs for students who are about to graduate.
- Communicating various opportunities such as internships and workshops to students.
- Providing technical assistance as needed to monitor and communicate with students.
- Providing input to Chairperson and Advisor on the needs of the department.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's Degree required.

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's degree required; experience in advising preferred.  Advising experience in an academic department desirable.

COMPENSATION

Compensation is commensurate with experience.
