Preferred Qualifications: Publication record in discipline. Graduate and/or undergraduate teaching experience.
Responsibilities & Requirements: We are particularly interested in finding new faculty working in the general areas of: Experimental Marine Genomics; Experimental Genomics; Computational Biology; Plant Evolutionary or Ecological Genomics; Ecological Genomics of Marine Microbial Communities; Merging Genomics, Microfluidics, and Nanotechnology.
These new faculty will most likely be housed in the School of Marine and Atmospheric Sciences, or/and one or more of the Departments of Molecular Genetics and Microbiology, Computer Sciences, Ecology and Evolution or Biomedical Engineering, and may also be affiliated with the Laufer Center for Physical and Quantitative Biology and/or Institute for Advanced Computing. As active members of a newly established genomics institute, they are expected to develop a robust research program and to obtain substantial extramural funding.
For the Experimental Marine Genomics position, we seek an Assistant Professor-level marine animal physiologist or ecologist. The ideal candidate would have extensive experience in the generation and analysis of high-throughput sequence data to answer questions related to the physiological and ecological responses of marine species to environmental or pathologic stress. The incumbent will contribute in the teaching of new graduate and undergraduate courses in marine genomics and training students to use genomics tools.
For the Experimental Genomics position, we seek an Assistant Professor-level scientist working in a vibrant area of molecular biology and using high-throughput sequencing as an integral part of his/her work. An area of particular interest would be pathogenic microbe/host interactions. This position could accommodate a Ph. D., or an M.D. or an M.D./Ph.D with clinical interests.
For the Computational Biologist position, we seek an Assistant Professor-level scientist working in the general area of Computational Biology whose research interests lie in one or more of the following areas: genomics, bioinformatics, computational molecular biology, sequence analysis, or systems biology. The candidate must demonstrate a strong commitment and substantial experience in applying their core technological expertise to interdisciplinary projects involving high-throughput sequencing. We are searching broadly for an excellent, vibrant young scientist.
For the Plant Evolutionary or Ecological Genomics position, we seek to add a faculty member with a research focus on evolutionary or ecological genomics of plants. We expect this person to apply the functional, experimental, and computational study of genome or transcriptome conservation and diversification across population and evolutionary time scales as well as different ecological contexts. A genomicist studying questions in plant evolution and ecology will fill a vital role in the interdisciplinary development of genomics at Stony Brook. We are searching broadly for an excellent scientist working on either model or non-model species, and possessing specialized expertise in plant experimental genomics, plant population genomics, or plant ecological genomics.
For the Ecological Genomics of Marine Microbial Communities position, we seek an Assistant Professor-level microbial ecologist working in the general area of marine microbial ecology. The ideal candidate would have extensive experience in the generation and analysis of high-throughput sequence data and in developing and implementing new computational approaches needed to answer novel questions. The candidate must also demonstrate a strong interest in applying their core technological expertise to interdisciplinary projects.
For the Merging Genomics, Microfluidics, and Nanotechnology position, we seek to attract an Assistant Professor level scientist/engineer on the cutting edge of improving genomics technologies employing microfluidics, nanotechnology, robotics, or other innovative approaches. The ideal candidate would have extensive experience in technology development and a strong multidisciplinary background that would encompass both genomics and engineering. The individual would be expected to achieve internationally recognized scholarship and impact as a junior faculty member.
Special Notes: These are tenure track positions. FLSA Exempt position, not eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. It is expected that the positions will be filled at the Assistant Professor level; however, exceptional candidates at higher ranks will also be considered.
