Montana State University Billings (MSUB) is the third largest of the state-supported units in the Montana University System and the second largest of the Montana State University campuses, serving roughly 5,000 students. The institution shares many of the characteristics of an urban/metropolitan university but also serves a large rural region. MSUB is committed to excellence in teaching, support for individual learning, engagement in civic responsibility, and intellectual, cultural, social, and community enhancement. In the classroom and in the community, students receive a well-rounded, unique education and training for associate’s, bachelor’s and master’s degrees through the University’s five colleges — Arts and Sciences, Business, Allied Health Professions, Education, and City College. MSUB invites applications and nominations for the position of Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs (VCSA). The VCSA, under the direct supervision of the Chancellor, has chief administrative responsibility for the student affairs division of the University. The VCSA will provide academic and auxiliary support and enrollment services for students enrolled through the City College at MSUB, MSUB University Campus, and MSUB online offerings. Reporting to the VCSA are the following areas: Career Services, Cooperative Education Services, Disability and Veterans Support Services, Diversity Center, Academic Advising Center, New Student and Retention Services, Financial Aid, Admissions and Records, Housing and Residential Life, Student Life and Union, Bookstore Operations, Student Health Services, Upward Bound/Educational Talent Search, Student Opportunity Services, Dining Services, Community Involvement, Childcare and Enrichment Center, and City College Student Services. All offices within the Division of Student Affairs are funded through auxiliary operations, general fund support, federal grant, and/or student fees. Budget oversight and fiscal management are main components of the position, which receives over $4 million in general fund allocations. Qualifications: The successful candidate will be a mature student affairs leader with extensive and relevant experience in advanced leadership roles in one or more areas of student services. Effective communication and interpersonal skills are required, as is the ability to lead a committed, professional staff and collaborate with and relate to a variety of internal and external constituencies. The successful candidate will have knowledge of and experience with strategic planning and student affairs best practices, including the development of clearly defined goals and outcomes as well as the collection of assessment data to measure progress toward the accomplishment of these goals. The ability to develop and manage complex budgets for both state-funded and self-supporting operations will be crucial. In addition, s/he must have experience with student conduct and Title IX issues. A master’s degree in student services or a directly related area is required, while an earned doctorate is preferred. Environment: Located in south-central Montana, Billings is the largest city in the state and brings together the best of both urban and rural living. The city itself is home to several museums and performing arts venues, and its downtown area offers a variety of shopping and dining options. In addition, Billings hosts a number of events throughout the year, including the Magic City Blues Festival and Billings Mustangs baseball games at Dehler Park. The region surrounding Billings is replete with opportunities for outdoor adventure. Nearby attractions include the Four Dances Natural Area and Pompey's Pillar National Monument, and historic Yellowstone National Park is a 3 hour car ride away. Application: Interested candidates should submit a cover letter and resume only to RPA Inc. at billingsvc@rpainc.org.
