GENERAL DUTIES

Supports faculty development activities related to the delivery of high-quality instructional services.

-Plans and implements workshops, seminars, colloquia, and other events for full- and part-time faculty to enhance skills and provide enrichment in support of improved educational results

-Compiles data and reports on faculty activities and outcomes

-Creates and maintains handbooks, instructions, web sites, and other materials to support faculty activities

-Consults with faculty on a variety of issues including instructional design, general orientation, use of technology, preparing meaningful course materials, grant-writing, and collaboration with other institutions

-May supervise professional and administrative staff

-Performs related duties as assigned.

CAMPUS SPECIFIC INFORMATION

The Office of Academic Affairs (OAA) of Borough of Manhattan Community College (BMCC) is responsible for the administration, coordination, and oversight of all academic and administrative matters related to teaching and learning for over 24,000 students.  Instruction is conducted by approximately 1000 full-time faculty and part-time faculty.  The college maintains a Center for Excellence in Teaching, Learning and Scholarship (CETLS), and is committed to providing faculty with opportunities for continued investigations into improving educational results for its students.

The Manager of CETLS will report to the Associate Dean of Academic Affairs and have primary responsibility for all aspects of faculty professional development through OAA.  Working in conjunction with the faculty, the successful candidate will plan and implement workshops, seminars, colloquia, and symposia for all BMCC full and part-time faculty. 

Other specific duties will include:
- Develop and maintain a faculty handbook, a mentoring handbook, and other publications related to faculty development.
- Compile and report on faculty awards and scholarship/creative works.
- Collaborate with the College's Faculty Development Committee on joint enrichment projects.
- Work with the co-editors on the College's Journal on Teaching and Learning.
- Assist the Dean in administering the orientation program for new and part-time faculty and the recognition program for tenured faculty.
- Collaborate with the Grants Office to identify appropriate grants for which faculty should apply and collaborate with other institutions as well as assist in the writing and review of such grants.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelors' degree and six years' related experience required.

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS

Master's degree required with doctorate preferred; a minimum of five years work experience in higher education required; at least three years of successful experience as a faculty member in a two or four year college; experience with grants and the ability to plan, execute, monitor, and adjust budgets; and well developed oral and written communication skills.  Also required are advanced organizational skills; demonstrated commitment to faculty success; demonstrated interpersonal skills and teamwork orientation necessary for effective interaction with individuals across a wide variety of positions inside and outside of the college.  Demonstrated commitment to scholarly work and faculty development a must.  Must possess functional use of Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.  Familiarity with integrated computerized management information systems a plus.

COMPENSATION

$55,602 - $88,418

Employees are also offered pension and Tax-Deferred Savings Plans.  Part-time employees must meet a weekly or semester work hour criteria to be eligible for health benefits. Health benefits are also extended to retirees who meet the eligibility criteria.
