Visiting Assistant Professor in the Practice of Public Relations & Corporate Communications
Georgetown University’s School of Continuing Studies invites applications for the full-time non-tenure line faculty position within the Master of Professional Studies (MPS) in Public Relations and Corporate Communications program. This one-year appointment is renewable upon annual review and will begin by the summer 2014 semester. The faculty member will teach three communication courses each fall, spring, and summer semester of the academic year. Teaching responsibilities will include the following: two sections of the program required Capstone course and one additional course. The third course of each semester will likely be a strategic communications planning course, unless the Senior Associate Dean determines that curriculum and student needs require instruction in an alternative subject. In addition to Capstone, the full-time non-tenure line faculty member will be expected to teach at least two additional types of strategic communications management courses, advise students, supervise alumni instructors and coordinators, and manage course-related websites. Each course section taught by the full-time non-tenure line faculty member will include 20-35 graduate students. Applicants must have at least 10 years of leadership experience and proven success in strategic communications management and at least a master’s degree in a related field from an accredited institution. Applicants should also have at least three years of experience as an executive trainer or graduate instructor and stellar reviews demonstrating the quality of instruction. Given the applied nature of the MPS in Public Relations and Corporate Communications program, public relations agency experience is preferred. This full-time non-tenure line faculty member will report to the Senior Associate Dean of the Division of Professional Communication. The MPS in Public Relations and Corporate Communications (scs.georgetown.edu/departments/12/public-relations-and-corporate-communications) program prepares Global communication leaders to thrive by equipping students with the skills needed to respond ethically and confidently to any communications challenge. Courses emphasize strategic planning to address critical business objectives and the development of hard metrics to measure success. Students learn to think strategically, present creative ideas, gain a global perspective on communications and public relations, develop clear and concise writing skills, and become leaders in the digital world. Students are a part of a community of passionate communication professionals who are personally invested in their colleagues' success. Student committees, fellowships, and real-world client challenges provide students with multiple opportunities to be engaged in dynamic networks. The program earned the PRWeek award for PR Education Program of the Year for two consecutive years (in 2012 and 2013) and has been an award finalist for six years.
