Responsibilities

Marymount University Library and Learning Services seeks energetic, enthusiastic candidates who are committed to assisting in instructing and assisting a diverse campus population use library materials and services.
The Reference Associate is a member of the Education Services Group and uses general knowledge of policies, procedures and sources to provide reference assistance and instruction to library users; assists with the creation and production of a variety of user education material; provides administrative and technical support for Reference and Instruction Team projects and services.



Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree and a minimum of one year of related work experience
  • Experience in and a commitment to providing excellent customer service
  • Intermediate proficiency with MS Word and MS Excel and the ability to create charts, tables, and simple Excel formulas
  • Working knowledge of computer and library equipment
    Knowledge of Google and Google products and services
    Experience in the design and creation of web pages and web-based materials is desirable
    Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Job Duties



Percent of total time 60%

Responsibility / Duty

Provides administrative support for the Reference and Instruction Teams by performing such duties as:
• inputting, maintaining and compiling team statistics
• creating and posting the reference desk and instruction/workshop schedules
• drafting regular and special reports
• ordering and maintaining supplies
• maintaining the reference collection
• updating policy, procedure and issues manuals
• compiling resources for instruction classes and inputting library instruction evaluation data when needed
• coordinating the scheduling of the library's instruction rooms
• hiring, training and supervising student employees who work the teams
• assisting with the creation and production of user education material in a variety of formats.
• working with both teams to plan, develop, evaluate and assess services

Responsibility / Duty

Provides user support for library patrons by performing such duties as:
• instructing, assisting, and informing students, faculty and staff on the use of L&LS services, resources, products, and equipment. Receives and responds to user questions about services and resources virtually and in person
• assisting with library user education programs such as workshops and orientations and participating in orientation programs sponsored by the Library Marketing and Publicity Team.
• assisting, as needed, at L&LS public service desks including Circulation, and the Ballston Center Library Extension and others.

Provides technical support for the Reference and Instruction Teams by performing such duties as:
• Provides basic technical support and assistance for services and projects including, but not limited to, communication services such as chat, blog, texting; set-up and use of library classroom technology and an expanding array of digital user services.

Miscellaneous Duties
• works with assigned librarian on various liaison/collection support tasks and projects throughout the year.
• works collaboratively in a team environment by participating in a variety of teams, task-forces, and committees across Library and Learning Services.
