Barton College is nationally recognized for its liberal arts curriculum, professional training in education, nursing, and social work, and its championship athletic teams. Barton College maintains a close-knit atmosphere and emphasizes individual attention and engaged learning. The Assistant Vice President (AVP) for Development is responsible for planning and implementing annual, major gift, and special project initiatives to identify, cultivate, and solicit prospects to ensure a strong base of ongoing financial support for the College. The AVP reports to the Vice President for External Relations and is an integral part of a close-knit team devoted to collaborative decision-making and to helping shape the future of Barton College. Specific duties and responsibilities include: Manage a portfolio of prospects and donors by active personal contacts. Integrate moves-management as an ongoing process for fundraising and accountability. Direct the annual Barton Society membership acquisition, renewal, and recognition events. Oversee an effective annual fund that focuses on increasing funds through direct marketing. Lead a development staff of four, including: Assistant Director of Development, Assistant Director of Athletic Development, Development Projects Specialist and Advancement Services Coordinator. Position requires a flexible schedule and high commitment to external contacts and communications. Regular travel to meet with volunteers and donors is required. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree and five years or more progressive experience is required in annual fund, major gift cultivation and solicitation, and working with board members and volunteers in fundraising. Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, are essential. Computer skills, including familiarity with fundraising database software, are necessary. The AVP will be a self starter who is adept at outreaching to constituents and relationship building.
