THE DEAN: The Dean of the School of Education reports directly to the Interim Provost and Chief Academic Officer and serves with the other academic deans on the President’s Cabinet and on the Deans’ Council led by the Interim Provost. Therefore, the Dean is expected to become an active, collaborative partner, capitalizing on the advantages in building meaningful interdisciplinary bridges between the School of Education and the other schools of the University. REQUIREMENTS: The successful candidate will be an innovative and collaborative academic leader with a commitment to the values of liberal education and professional education. The successful candidate will have: • A strong record of teaching, research and scholarship, and service, commensurate with appointment at a senior rank; • An earned doctorate from a regionally accredited institution (required); • Substantial administrative experience; • An appreciation of and experience in providing high quality education for adult working students; • Familiarity with and capacity to effectively lead specialized accreditation, teacher preparation, and counselor preparation accreditation activities; • A commitment to the mentoring and support of both junior and senior faculty and to the cultivation of a climate for teaching and research consistent with a school of education that offers doctoral and master’s programs; • Record of success in working across all university departments including administrative, academic and operational units; • Demonstrated knowledge of adult student learning theory and experience working with the adult student population; • The ability to develop and maintain fair, consistent, and transparent means of handling ongoing administrative activities; • Strong communication skills and the habit of regular communication with faculty, staff, administrative colleagues, and the central administration; • An understanding of the diversity of the student population, geography, and markets of education programs for adult working students offered on multiple campuses; and • Strong commitment to the academic and educational justice goals of the School of Education.
