Biology Faculty - Tenure-track
The faculty member is primarily responsible for teaching a range of lecture and lab courses including cell and molecular biology, genetics, biotechnology, and general and introductory biology. The faculty member will provide leadership for development and assessment of new programs, including biotechnology. In addition, faculty members are expected to stay current in their disciplines and in innovative and emerging teaching methodologies; implement changes in instruction based on assessment results; work with outside agencies, such as government, education, or business in order to promote STEM and the College; maintain reasonably distributed office hours; develop and revise curriculum, participate in a variety of college committees and task forces, and advise students as appropriate. Faculty members are also expected to demonstrate leadership in teaching, discipline activities, and college service, and participate in community service. This is a 10-month, tenure-track position scheduled to begin August 2014. A master's degree in biology, biotechnology, or a related field and minimum of one year or equivalent full-time teaching experience, preferably at a community college. Applicants must have experience developing instructional material; demonstrated ability to teach a range of biology lecture and lab courses; demonstrated understanding of and experience in assessment of student learning; and experience using innovative methodologies, techniques, technology and other delivery methods to continually improve student learning. The ability to interact with students and potential students outside the classroom environment in discipline-related activities, effective communication skills, and a well-articulated understanding of the role of community colleges and their students are required.
