Educational Experience Requirement: Bachelor's degree in Education, Business, Marketing or a related field. Five years of experience in training, facilitating leadership/challenge courses, fundraising or related experience. A combination of education, experience, and training that would produce the required knowledge and abilities could be considered.

Nature and Purpose of Position: Serves as an administrative officer responsible for coordinating the President's Leadership Academy, coordinating philanthropic support for Sam Houston State University's (SHSU) Recreational Sports program, and serving as a leadership facilitator of the university's high and low elements ropes challenge course program.

Primary Responsibilities: There are three primary areas of responsibility associated with this position: 1) Coordinates the President's Leadership Academy, which is a program designed to increase and identify potential leaders for the University and the community. Develops activities to improve participants' leadership abilities. Selects guest lecturers to facilitate the success of the academy; 2) Generates additional income for Recreational Sports through philanthropic efforts. Works effectively with the University's development office to identify, engage, and solicit major gift prospects, who are capable of making gifts of $25,000 or more for the Recreational Sports program and scholarship endowments and those who are capable of making six figure and above gifts to support the expansion and improvement of Recreational Sports facilities. Provides ongoing cultivation of and communication with contributors and prospective donors to the university's Recreational Sports program. Works closely with the Recreational Sports senior leadership team in the development of goals, objectives, and strategies to secure the private support necessary to advance the university's Recreational Sports program to the next level of success. Forges and maintains a strong relationship with the university's staff, students, alumni, and friends. Communicates effectively with and engages area Directors and their staffs in cultivating donors for support of the Recreational Sports program. Represents the Recreational Sports program at major university events. Maintains a high level of visibility at university events. Develops effective relationships throughout the campus. Makes public presentations, speaking before all sizes of groups. Assists the Recreational Sports department in the design, scheduling, and execution of major fundraising campaigns and events in order to maximize the income potential and provide operating support to Recreational Sports; and 3) Assists the challenge course staff as a leadership facilitator. Assists with the facilitation of the university's high and low elements ropes challenge course program. Provides supervision of campers in the use of the ropes facilities at Bearkat Camp. Maintains current certifications and educational requirements. Performs other related duties as assigned by the Vice Provost or Associate Vice President of Student Services.

Other Specifications: Contacts include university staff, students, alumni, and friends. As leadership facilitator of the challenge course, supervision of campers in the use of the ropes facilities at Bearkat Camp, with exposure to heights, and outside temperatures. Attention is required to prevent injury.
