College of Southern Maryland invites applications for a 12-month, non-tenured track Chair of the Communication, Arts and Humanities (CAH) Department. The CAH Division chair is a full-time faculty member appointed to administer the division. This is a twelve month position which includes instructional and administrative duties.The division chair provides academic and administrative leadership for the optimal functioning of the division in realizing the goals and objectives of the Division of Academic Affairs, the division, and the college as a whole. The chair is responsible for coordinating credit and credit-free instruction in disciplines assigned to the division; hiring, supervising and evaluating faculty, course/program/discipline coordinators, the administrative assistant and other staff; fostering curriculum innovation, development and assessment, and encouraging faculty development; serving as a liaison with other educational sectors, employers and community members; divisional budget preparation and monitoring; achievement of division goals; achievement of division goals; scheduling and enrollment planning and management; the coordination of instructional needs of faculty and students for an effective instructional environment and teaching; and issues involving the FA Theatre.

Required Skills Experience Required
  • Master’s degree in one of the disciplines of the Communication, Arts and Humanities Division; PhD is preferred
  • Minimum of five years full-time college teaching experience; preferably at the community college level;
  • Experience in instructional program design and development required;
  • Experience with alternative instructional systems preferred (web-based, self-paced, cooperative education, portfolio assessment, etc.).
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills are required.
  • Some collegiate administrative experience is preferred.
  • Grants development and/or management experience preferred
