About The Unit:

Unit Job Summary: Unified Messaging and Video Engineer-Senior: This position will lead the integration of our Cisco Video Core Infrastructure, including Video Conferencing Server, Telepresence Management Suite and Telepresence Content Manager for deployment of Cisco and legacy video end-points for video conferencing use throughout the University. This position will support the Cisco Unified Messaging Infrastructure that supports the business and employees throughout University of Chicago. To be successful in this role, the Engineer will be expected to manage across several projects, collaborate with technical and non-technical partners in Information Technology Services, and with areas outside of ITS. Essential Functions: Responsible for design, implementation and monitoring of Video Telepresence infrastructure; plans and executes highly complex upgrade and migration activities; create and maintain all related documentation, including test plans, fulfills preproduction testing. Lead engineering design discussions with ITS and vendor teams to develop Unified Messaging and video technology solutions meeting client applications and service delivery operational goals. Establishes and maintains effective system availability using monitoring and usage tools. Configure system monitoring and alert tools; monitors system performance for service and capacity planning. Monitors the Unified Messaging voice and video Network using alert notifications; isolates and resolves errors, escalates performance issues to vendor as needed; implements and oversees approved course of action. Work with others in ITS to meet with business professionals to review voice and video communications service catalog, determine solutions to meet their business needs and communication's objectives. Fulfills Tier 3 application, network and product support for Unified Messaging voice and video including Change Management, Escalations and Service Delivery procedures. Attend product, technology and vendor workshops, review professional publications, attend approved training to further career or necessary skills. Other duties as assigned.

Unit Education: Bachelor's degree in Telecommunications and Voice Network services or equivalent combination of experience and education required. Cisco UC Call Manager - 6.0 minimum release, Advanced configuration certification required. Cisco Unity Connection - 8.0 minimum release certification required. Cisco CCNP: Voice Training or Certification required. Certification or equivalent experience in Wired and Wireless Data networks preferred. Cisco certifications: CIPT 1, CIPT 2, CVOICE, Cisco CCNA preferred.

Unit Experience: Minimum three years of experience designing and implementing Cisco Telepresence or Tandberg video conferencing products for Enterprise solution required. Minimum three years of experience designing and implementing Cisco Unified Messaging network and applications required. Minimum five years of experience with router/gateway configuration required. Expertise with communications protocols such as H323 / SIP / MGCP / SCCP required. Experience in Project Management practices, documentation and organization required. Experience with Cisco VoIP architecture, design and implementation required. Experience in using Service Now or similar service management system preferred. Knowledge of ITIL methodology, incident and request management processes preferred.

Ability to guide and direct peers and team members in meeting critical service dates or project tasks preferred. Ability to negotiate dates or requirements to meet technology and business objectives preferred.
