Comparative Politics (China) The Department of Political Science at Hobart and William Smith Colleges invites applications for a one-year full-time position in Comparative Politics with a focus on China to begin Fall 2014; Ph.D. preferred, advanced ABD considered. We are particularly interested in a candidate who has conducted extensive field research in the region, and who teaches and works on issues related to Chinese domestic politics, political economy, and/or labor politics. The successful candidate’s work should be informed by theoretical and historical perspectives on questions important to the study of politics. The department encourages applications from candidates who could offer a course in qualitative and interpretive research methods. The teaching load is five courses and includes introductory courses in Comparative Politics and at least two courses dealing with China and other possibilities to be decided at point of hire. The Department values intellectual diversity and supports a wide range of critical and theoretical approaches that help bring people together across subfields as they address the ever-pressing question of power. The Department also supports interdisciplinarity in teaching and research in keeping with the Colleges’ longstanding emphasis on interdisciplinary liberal arts education.
