Exempt Position: This is an exempt position not subject to overtime pay. Management earn 22 vacation days per fiscal year.

DEFINITION:
Under the direction of the Associate Vice President, Academic Affairs, the School Dean is responsible for all functions and matters relating to academic programs and their support services within the School. In fulfilling the responsibilities of this office, the Dean will serve as the chief academic and administrative officer of the School. The Dean will set the standard for intellectual engagement and accomplishment, provide strategic vision and operational leadership to all aspects of the academic and scholarly programs, assure that the School continues to serve its students with academic programs of the highest quality and effectiveness, embrace innovation, and promote diversity in all its programs.

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES (ILLUSTRATIVE ONLY):
Provide academic leadership and management for the School including leadership for academic and financial planning.
• Create and support an intellectual and cultural environment that promotes faculty efforts in teaching, scholarship, and program development.
• Provide leadership for professional development and support of the faculty, and leadership development amongst department chairs and others.
• Actively engage in shared governance with the faculty and foster collaborative relationships.
• Secure resources to support attainment of School goals.
• Develop and implement the School’s strategic plan in ways consistent with that of the College’s mission.
• Ensure attainment of School’s annual enrollment targets ad projections.
• Serve as the point of communication for all official business of the School.
• Recommend the appointment, advancement towards and award of tenure and dismissal of faculty.
• Select, train, motivate and evaluate staff; establish and monitor employee performance objectives; prepare and present employee performance reviews; provide or coordinate staff training; work with employees to correct deficiencies; implement discipline procedures.
• Develop, in consultation with the Associate Vice President, Academic Affairs, an annual budget.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
• Possession of a master’s degree from an accredited institution in a related discipline.
AND
• Three (3) years of formal training or leadership experience related to the administrator’s assignment.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
• Possession of a doctorate degree in a related discipline.
• Working knowledge of a wide variety of academic disciplines and programs.
• Two (2) years of experience writing and/or revising curriculum.
• Five (5) years of experience as a teacher in a college or university setting, with particular emphasis in the promotion of effective teaching and the advancement of best pedagogical practices amongst peers.
• Experience working with faculty across disciplines to address program review and student learning outcomes.
• Ability to articulate and demonstrate a meaningful commitment to the college’s identity and mission.

OTHER LICENSES AND REQUIREMENTS:
• Ability to travel.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Must possess mobility to work in a standard office setting and use standard office equipment, including a computer; vision to read printed materials and a computer screen; and hearing and speech to communicate in person, before groups, and over the telephone. This is primarily a sedentary office classification although standing and walking between work areas may be required. Finger dexterity is needed to access, enter, and retrieve data using a computer keyboard or calculator and to operate standard office equipment. Positions in this classification occasionally bend, stoop, kneel, reach, push, and pull drawers open and closed to retrieve and file information. Employees must possess the ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials and objects weighing up to 25 pounds.

ENVIRONMENTAL ELEMENTS:
Employees work in an office environment with moderate noise levels, controlled temperature conditions, and no direct exposure to hazardous physical substances. Employees may interact with upset staff and/or public and private representatives in interpreting and enforcing departmental policies and procedures.
