Key Functions and Expected Performances:

Recruitment

  • Assist the Assistant Dean for Admissions, Vocation, and Stewardship with planning recruitment and admissions strategies with a particular focus and responsibility for increasing VDS's non-white and international matriculates.
  • Plan and implement recruiting travel with an expectation of at least 5-7 weeks of travel every academic year. Work to balance attention to VDS's traditional feeder
  • schools/networks and expand our recruitment base and applicant pool.
  • Assist the Assistant Dean for Admissions, Vocation, and Stewardship in developing admissions materials and advertising appropriate to varied constituencies.
  • Assist with implementation of Admissions communications plan to convert inquiries and prospects into applicants and matriculates.
On-campus Prospective Student Hospitality
  • Assist Assistant Dean for Admissions, Vocation, and Stewardship in planning on-campus visit days and prospective student hospitality.
  • Broaden opportunities for college groups, young adults, second-career students,
  • denominational representatives, and others to visit campus, with a particular focus on minority groups.
  • Develop communications strategies with campus visitors to move prospective students through the application process.
New Student Transition
  • Support the Assistant Dean for Admissions, Vocation, and Stewardship in the planning and implementation of Orientation.
  • Help design summer strategy to insure matriculation and reduce "summer melt," with particular attention to non-white and international students.
  • Assist Asst. Dean for Student Life with development of resources to support students' transition to VDS during the first year, with a particular attention to educating students around the school's Purposes and Commitments statement.
Vocational Discernment & Career Service
  • In collaboration with the Director of Financial Stewardship and Vocational Planning and Asst. Dean for Student Life, serve as point person for vocational discernment programs for prospective students.
  • Assist the Director of Student Financial Stewardship and Vocational Planning and Associate Dean for Academic Affairs in aiding faculty advisers in serving students' vocational discernment process.
  • Assist the Director of Student Financial Stewardship and Vocational Planning and Associate Dean for Academic Affairs in aiding denominational liaisons in serving students' vocational discernment process.
  • In collaboration with Director of Financial Stewardship and Vocational Planning, gather, maintain, and analyze data on entering students demographics and career interests/needs.
  • Assist the Director of Financial Stewardship and Vocational Planning and Asst. Dean for Student Life in coordinating vocational planning workshops and one-on-one vocational coaching for current students as needed.
Preferred Education, Skills, and Experiences:
  • Master level degree from ATS (Association of Theological Schools) accredited institution with particular expertise in working with non-majority populations preferred
  • Must have ability to travel (5-7 weeks each academic year)
  • Strong interpersonal skills required
  • Career Development and/or Vocational Discernment strongly preferred
Additional Information:
  • This is a full-time, salaried position; hours are typically days, Monday - Friday, with travel in evenings and on weekends as business dictates.

Basic Qualifications


Position requires Bachelor's and 2 years of experience or the equivalent.  Master's degree preferred.
