FACULTY VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT

Performs teaching, research and guidance duties in area(s) of expertise.  Shares responsibility for committee and department assignments including administrative, supervisory, and other functions.

Brings expertise to the Department in developing acquisition of second language reading abilities in teaching ESL and Academic & Critical Reading courses.  Teaches ESL and Academic & Critical Reading as well as Linguistics.  Participates in college and professional activities, such as curriculum development, grant writing, assessment, and faculty development.  Productive scholarship expected.  Evening/weekend schedule may be required.

QUALIFICATIONS

For Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor:
Ph.D. degree in area(s) of experience or equivalent.  Also required are the ability to teach successfully, demonstrated scholarship or achievement, and ability to cooperate with others for the good of the institution.
 
For Instructor:
Master's degree in area(s) of expertise, and/or active progress toward a Doctorate, or equivalent.  Also required are the ability to teach successfully, interest in productive scholarship or achievement, and ability to cooperate with others for the good of the institution.

Ph.D./Ed. D. required for professorial titles.  For Associate and Professor, the candidate must have a record of significant achievement in the field.  Ph.D. preferred, but master's degree with doctoral work in progress may be considered for hire as an instructor.  Persons appointed in the instructor title are only eligible for five (5) annual appointments.  Appointments to a professorial title subsequent to service as an instructor will only be considered if the candidate has obtained the qualifications for professorial ranks as stated above.  Instructors with ABD preferred. 

Degree in TESOL with emphasis on second language reading or in Reading or Literacy studies with emphasis on second language acquisition of reading abilities.  Urban college teaching experience (teaching academic and critical reading or academic ESL) with multicultural/multilingual student body preferred.  Experience with instructional technology is an asset.  Experience in teaching ESL student and ESL coursework is a plus.
