Required Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree. In lieu of degree, a combination of education and/or directly related healthcare experience totaling four years will be considered. Two years of full time simulation or related training experience. Ability to solve problems by formulating solutions and ability to provide customer service. Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills. Ability to work effectively with diverse groups of people. Work requires heavy physical lifting or equipment and management utilization of advanced medical devices.
Preferred Qualifications: Employment experience in the operation and maintenance of medical simulation equipment. Experience in an academic/training environment. Medical training or experience in a health care related field. Experience in the installation, troubleshooting, and maintenance of computer hardware and software. Knowledge of audio/video (AV) equipment and software for recording, duplication, mixing and editing. Experience in video production (e.g. filming, editing, and transcoding). Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support CPR/AED Instructor. Current New York State Emergency Medical Technician.

Brief Description of Duties: Under the direction of theClinical SimulationCoordinator, the Simulation Technician will be responsible for the set up, maintenance, repair, and operation of all high fidelity mannequins and partial task trainers housed in the Clinical Skills Center (CSC) and the Surgical Skills Center. The Simulation Technician is vital in the delivery of quality educational experiences to students, faculty, and staff. The incumbent will support the faculty and staff of the CSC with the technical aspects of medical simulation.
  • Provides day-to-day operation, maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting of simulation, AV, and network systems and equipment.
  • Setup, run, and strike human patient simulator equipment for clinical training and assessments.
  • Assists in the development of technical training programs and conduct training of faculty and staff on the proper use of high fidelity mannequins, partial task trainers, technical equipment, and use of all of the Center's technical and software systems. Assist in coordination and instruction of educational offerings as needed. Assists in coordination and instruction of certification courses and programs as needed.
  • Assist with the maintenance, upgrade, and troubleshooting of a Windows based network environment, including network hardware such as servers, workstations, cable infrastructure, and software specific for specialized simulation training and standard office software on Center's computers.
  • Assist in video production.
  • Operate the CSC software/technical systems in order to administer/execute a clinical learning activity or structured clinical examination for standardized patient simulation as needed.
  • Assist in the technical system design, policy, planning, and support.
  • Participate with the Center Director to continue to build and develop the capabilities of the CSC, evaluate new equipment, identify opportunities for technological improvement, and the policies that govern the Center's use.
  • Participate in and receive technical training as necessary.
  • Communicate with appropriate vendors to perform technical and warranty services including installations, maintenance, repairs and upgrades to Center medical simulation, AV, and computer network equipment.
  • Assist in the maintenance of contract and warranty records including the scheduling of work and supervision of all technical work and services.
  • Assist in maintaining a system for storage of simulation supplies and a system for completing inventory and ordering of needed supplies.
  • Assist with equipment inventory and property control procedures.

Special Notes: This is a full time appointment, 37.5 hours per week, Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. FLSA Nonexempt position, eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. Internal and external search to occur simultaneously. Some night and weekend work is required for student training and/or conducting clinical assessments.
