Librarian - Reference Services Coordinator
Eastern Washington University Libraries seek a motivated individual with a strong commitment to student success and retention to fill the position of Reference and Instruction Librarian/Reference Services Coordinator. This position is an 11 month tenure-track library faculty appointment working and paid over 12 months and will perform professional responsibilities in librarianship, scholarship, and service.
Responsibilities in librarianship will focus on reference and instruction activities primarily at the Cheney Campus, and on coordination of the EWU Libraries' reference services. Reporting to the Faculty Chair, this individual will provide leadership in reference services in a changing and dynamic environment. The Reference Services Coordinator will collaborate with colleagues, service coordinators and library leadership regarding public services.
- Provide leadership in development, coordination, promotion, delivery and evaluation of the Library's reference service for both on-campus and distance students.
- Make recommendations to the Dean, Faculty Chair, and colleagues on changes in policies, resources and services necessary to meet the needs of students, faculty, and staff.
- Participate in campus, regional and statewide reference-related initiatives.
- Coordinate public service projects to support library and university initiatives (e.g. EWU Learning Commons).
- Oversee daily operations of the main reference desk and coordinate reference desk schedules. Duties include managing, monitoring, and scheduling the virtual reference service, QuestionPoint.
- Analyze reference transactions data and creates reports to evaluate the effectiveness of reference services.
- Provide general and specialized reference, instruction, and research assistance.
- Apply reference service best practices in accordance with RUSA Guidelines and cultivates awareness of current trends in academic libraries.
- Manage online and print reference collections.
- Oversee selection and assessment of reference resources.
- Act as library liaison to assigned departments.
- Provide information literacy instruction for assigned liaison areas and the general curriculum according to the ACRL Information Literacy Standards.
- Travel to off-campus locations for distance education programs as needed.
- Create and maintain online tutorials and research guides (including LibGuides) to support outreach and instructional initiatives.
- Supervise one staff member who oversees the hiring, training and supervising of student reference desk assistants.
- Delegate responsibilities as appropriate while maintaining an atmosphere conducive to job productivity and satisfaction.
- Foster employee empowerment and growth through staff development with continuing education opportunities.
- Explore and develop funding opportunities through grant and proposal writing.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Conditions of Employment:
Position may be filled at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor (Librarian II or III), depending on qualifications of the selected candidate and the recommendation of the Dean of Libraries and the Library Faculty Personnel Committee.
The position is located in the JFK Library on Eastern's Cheney campus. Position will participate in night and weekend reference desk assignments as needed.
This is an 11 month position working over 12 months each year. This means the position must schedule 21 days of leave without pay each fiscal year.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS FOR APPOINTMENT AS ASSISTANT PROFESSOR (LIBRARIAN II):
- MLS/MLIS from an ALA-accredited institution.
- A minimum of three years successful post-MLS/MLIS professional public services library experience in an academic setting, gained within the past ten years.
- Relevant supervisory experience.
- University requirements for faculty promotion and tenure, as found in the Library Plan [http://ewu71412.ewu.edu/libgroup/admin].
- Applicant must provide evidence, or demonstrate potential, to maintain an ongoing program of scholarship and professional development.
- Proficient reference and instruction skills including the ability to use the Internet and Web-based resources effectively.
- High level of written and oral communication, interpersonal, and collaboration skills in order to positively interact with a wide range of constituencies.
- Mastery of technologies relevant to providing library services, including Microsoft Office applications in a Windows environment.
- Candidate must demonstrate interest, ability and/or experience promoting cultural competency and/or diversity.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS FOR APPOINTMENT AS ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR (LIBRARIAN III):
Candidates considered for hiring in at the rank of Associate Professor (Librarian III) must meet the qualifications specified herein, and the application of the candidate must have the support of the Dean of Libraries and the Library Faculty Personnel Committee.
- Second postgraduate degree relevant to an academic environment.
- Strong project management skills to effectively develop plans, set goals, prioritize, meet deadlines, and motivate colleagues.
- Ability to analyze situations, realize when change is necessary and take action in order to adapt to current trends.
- Demonstrates ability to adapt to rapidly changing environments and technologies.
- Willingness to experiment, take risks and accept responsibility for outcomes.
- Experience obtaining external funding (i.e. grants).
