The Department of Theatre and Dance at Western Illinois University seeks an enthusiastic costume designer with excellent collaborative and communication skills to serve as costume designer in a production-centered community of faculty and student artists in a diverse, NAST accredited program offering MFA, BFA, and BA degrees.
RESPONSIBILITIES: The Department of Theatre and Dance seeks an individual to serve as assistant professor of Costume Design, tenure track. The position will design or oversee a season of 5-7 mainstage and 8-10 studio productions; collaborate to create a shared vision for the design program; mentor all costume & makeup designers, artisans and crews for the departmental supported productions; communicate effectively with faculty and staff within the Department of Theatre and Dance; and provide academic advisement to students in design. Teaching responsibilities include undergraduate and graduate costume design, costume technology, with additional courses in makeup and rendering.
RANK & SALARY: Appointment is tenure-track assistant professor. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: MFA in Costume Design, proficiency with a demonstrated record of successful teaching and a commitment to diversity.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: A preferred candidate is a faculty and student advocate who exhibits the following: professional design credits and experience in a secondary field (lighting, scenic or stage management preferred).
THE DEPARTMENT: The Department of Theatre and Dance offers a BA in Theatre with options in acting, directing, and production design, the BFA in Musical Theatre, and the MFA in acting, directing or design, and minors in Dance and Theatre. A Department Chair, sixteen faculty members, a technical director, a scene shop technician, a costume supervisor, and an office manager serve approximately 60 undergraduate majors and 15 graduate students. Three theatres (proscenium, thrust, and flexible) are used for theatre productions. The University has completed the design phases for a new $72 million Center for Performing Arts. The department is NAST accredited and will be undergoing re-accreditation during the 2014-15 academic year. Macomb is located approximately 75 miles from the Quad Cities International Airport (Moline, IL) and 70 miles from the Greater Peoria Regional Airport (Peoria, IL).
WIU-Quad Cities (Student Population: 1,204): The only public university in the Quad Cities area, WIU-QC offers select undergraduate and graduate programs, including a doctorate in education, at its metropolitan, non-residential campuses in Moline, IL (population 44,000). The Quad Cities (population 376,000) rests on the banks of the Mississippi River and is comprised of Moline and Rock Island in western Illinois and Davenport and Bettendorf in eastern Iowa. Moline, Illinois is home to the Quad Cities International Airport.
