The Vice President for Academic Affairs provides leadership and is responsible for the overall organization, administration, supervision and evaluation of all instructional programs and related services. The Vice President is responsible for developing and implementing high quality general education, transfer programs, and career and technical programs responsive to the workforce development needs of the Southern Maryland region. Also leads the efforts in assessing student learning outcomes. Participates in college-wide committees and teams, as appropriate, and serves on the President’s Council and the Quality Improvement Council and by representing the college on state wide coordinating groups.


The work schedule for this position is 40 hours per week, Monday - Friday 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Flexibility is required.


College of Southern Maryland conducts background checks in order to ensure the safety and well-being of the college's staff and students. The final candidate for this position will be subject to the following background checks: Criminal History Check and Credit Background Check.

Required Skills
  • Minimum of an earned doctorate.
  • Minimum of five years of full-time successful teaching experience in higher education, preferably in community colleges(s). Evidence of scholarly activity is preferred.
  • Minimum of five years successful academic administrative experience, preferably in community college(s).
  • Must be capable of leading faculty, be sensitive to student’s needs and interests, demonstrate commitment to fostering excellence in teaching and learning, be able to work with faculty to demonstrate excellent student outcomes, in transfer and career programs, be able to envision and advocate quality in general education and effectiveness in developmental education. Must be capable of working with technically able people; be able to envision and advocate the importance of technical education and education in applied technologies for development of a world-class workforce.
  • Excellent communication and human relations skills required.
  • Experience in accreditation activities, learning outcomes assessment, and global education preferred.
